Driver in crash that killed Wisconsin coach's family had BAC more than 2.5 times legal limit
The driver in a crash that killed Wisconsin assistant basketball coach Howard Moore’s wife and daughter in May was found to have been more than 2.5 times over the legal blood alcohol limit.
Toxicology reports for Samantha Winchester, who also died in the Ann Arbor, Michigan, crash, showed that she had a .207 blood-alcohol-content level, according to medical reports obtained by the Detroit News. The legal limit Michigan is .08.
Three killed in collision
Winchester, 23, was found to be driving the wrong way when her car collided head on with the car driven by Moore’s wife Jennifer Moore, 46. Winchester died at the scene. Jennifer Moore died at a hospital the day of the accident.
The couple’s children were also in the car. Their daughter Jaidyn, 9, died at the scene. Their 13-year-old son Jerell suffered minor injuries, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Moore recently suffered cardiac arrest
Howard Moore, 48, suffered third-degree burns in the crash and recently suffered cardiac arrest while en route to the hospital in an ambulance from his Madison, Wisconsin, home for an undisclosed medical issue.
The University of Wisconsin announced the news of his cardiac arrest on July 29, noting that he will not coach during the upcoming season. The statement shared a message from his family.
“The Moore family greatly appreciates the outpouring of love and support from the greater Madison and Chicago communities, the Badgers and Big Ten families and all whose lives Howard and his family have touched,” a statement from the family read. “Please continue to keep Howard and his son, Jerell, in your prayers.”
