Dominant defense helps Baxter football bury Melcher-Dallas

Sep. 5—MELCHER-DALLAS — Baxter's defense registered three sacks and 14 tackles for loss to lead the Bolts football team to a 64-0 road win over Melcher-Dallas on Friday night.

The Bolts scored 22 points in each of the first two quarters and finished the shutout in the second half.

Through two games, Baxter is outscoring its foes 114-8. The Bolts' offense finished with 308 yards against the Saints.

Cody Damman led the Bolts (2-0) with 128 passing yards and three scores. He was 7-of-10 through the air.

Damman also rushed for 83 yards and three scores on five carries and had seven tackles, three tackles for loss and a fumble recovery on defense.

Jake Travis led Baxter's defense with 8.5 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He rushed twice for 14 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for nine yards.

Travis registered eight touchbacks on his 10 kickoffs, too.

Cade Robinson finished with a career-high 82 rushing yards and one TD on two carries and also had a 5-yard TD reception. The touchdown catch came from Perrin Sulzle, who was 1-for-1 with 5 yards and a score.

Cael Shepley hauled in three catches for 45 yards and a TD and had four tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss on defense.

Treyton Travis grabbed two catches for 52 yards and two scores. Evan Mahoney rushed one time for seven yards, hauled in a 22-yard catch and snagged an interception on defense.

Cody Samson also impacted the defense with 6.5 tackles and two tackles for loss. Jack Anderson registered one sack.

The Saints (0-2) have been outscored 138-0 this season.
