Dolphins rookie RB De’Von Achane set to break records despite injury
Coming out of the 2023 NFL draft, people in the draft community knew that De’Von Achane was a perfect fit for the speed-obsessed Mikc McDaniel offense and had a shot of taking over as the lead back sooner rather than later. However, it’s unlikely anyone saw the historic production level that Achane is currently bringing coming.
The NFL record for yards per carry in a season by a running back in the modern era is currently held by Jamaal Charles during his incredible 2010 performance in which he averaged an incredible 6.4 yards per carry over a 16-game span. Achane at the moment is sitting at nearly double that with 12.1 yards per carry in admittedly a much smaller sample size. However, this seems like more of a trend for Achane rather than a one or two-game explosion. Achane looks legitimately unstoppable with the ball in his hands, and there are very few humans in the league that can run him down.
It’s worth noting Achane is expected to miss a few weeks with a knee injury, but once he returns, he could be back on track to continuing his record pace. It’s looking early on like the Miami Dolphins may have gotten the steal of the draft, and Achane has made this offense even more unstoppable than it already is. With Miami already on a historic pace offensively Achane could be the key piece once he returns for them to maintain those records and help sustain them through the playoffs once he returns.
