Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa blames himself for mistakes on final two plays vs. Chiefs

The Miami Dolphins were attempting a late comeback against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday after being down 21-0 early in the contest.

Mike McDaniel’s offense was able to find the end zone twice in the second half, cutting the deficit to just seven points with the a chance to tie the game or take the lead late in the fourth quarter.

On third-and-10 at Kansas City’s 31-yard line, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagvoailoa launched a ball toward Cedrick Wilson Jr., but the throw fell inexplicably short. Tagovailoa called it a miscommunication.

Wilson had gotten wide open behind Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watson and could’ve easily brought in a better throw for a touchdown.

Still, the Dolphins have an opportunity on fourth down to keep the drive alive or get in the end zone. Tagovailoa dropped the shotgun snap from center Connor Williams, resulting in a sack and a turnover on downs.

After the game, Tagovailoa took responsibility for those final two plays.

“On what happened with to me and Ced, that was just miscommunication, and in big-time moments those things like that can happen,” Tagovailoa said. “I gotta throw a better ball. It was just miscommunication there. And, then with the last play game, I’m always going to blame myself. I have to catch the ball. Whether that’s getting in a better position to catch it or whatever it is, can’t end the game like that when we have an opportunity like that against a really good team.”

Miami needed a win to quiet some of the doubters regarding their record and strength of schedule, but now they’ll go into the bye week with a lot of noise surrounding their team.
