DJ Reader, Cincinnati Bengals DT, suffered torn quad injury vs Minnesota Vikings
Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle DJ Reader was injured during the first quarter of Saturday's NFL Week 15 win against the Minnesota Vikings at Paycor Stadium.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported during the fourth quarter that Reader suffered a potentially significant quad injury. Rapoport and Garafolo reported after the game that Reader has a torn quad tendon, and will miss the rest of the season.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed Sunday that Reader suffered a season-ending quad tear.
The cart came out for Reader during the Vikings' first offensive series of the game and drove him off the field.
Reader, in his fourth season with the Bengals, has started all 14 games in which he's appeared this season. He missed several games of last season with a knee injury.
Later in the first half, Bengals rookie defensive back DJ Ivey was carted off the field with a left knee injury, and guard Alex Cappa hobbled off the field and was evaluated.
Social media reactions:
Zac Taylor confirms DJ Reader’s injury is not good and they don’t anticipate getting him back this season.

DJ Reader just slammed his fist on the cart.
You hate to see that for the Bengals best player on defense— Kelsey Conway (@KelseyLConway) December 16, 2023
This week, Lou Anarumo called DJ Reader the most consistent player on the defense. Reader is getting carted off the field. Everyone on the defense runs over to show support.

DJ Reader is out with a knee injury. As devastating a blow as you can get for the Bengals defense.

Really hope it's nothing serious for DJ. Hate seeing him go down like he did https://t.co/gXvM1Pfdrg

Look at the way the Bengals players came over to support DJ and you’ll see why he’s such an important piece of this locker room https://t.co/TpkUEJ6cRL
