Updated district softball roundup: Three Marion-area teams drop out of tournament Monday

All three Marion-area softball teams competing in the Division III district semifinals on Monday came up short as did Division IV's Ridgedale on Tuesday. All area teams are now out of tournaments.

In D-III, No. 11 seed Utica upset No. 2 Cardington 10-1, while No. 10 West Jefferson topped No. 8 Northmor 8-6, and No. 1 Fairbanks handled No. 12 Pleasant 15-1 in five innings. In the D-IV semifinal, top-seeded Danville stopped No. 7 Ridgedale 12-2 in six innings.

That leaves Ridgedale as the lone area softball squad still playing. The No. 7 Rockets play Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a Division IV district semifinal at top-seeded and state-ranked Danville.

Here's a closer look at all four games:

Danville-Ridgedale

The Rockets (14-3) were held to four hits with Aubrie Smith getting two singles. Danville (18-3) scored 12 runs with 11 earned on 12 hits, striking out three times with two walks. The Blue Devils batted .400 in the game, while Ridgedale batted .182.

Fairbanks-Pleasant

The Spartans (11-16) got only one hit at Fairbanks (19-2), but it was a home run from Hannah Miller in the fourth inning. Fairbanks pitcher Macy Kise struck out six and walked two in her one-hitter.

Utica-Cardington

The Pirates (15-5) committed six errors against Utica (12-11) as Genevieve Longsdorf gave up 11 hits, two walks and four earned runs with six strikeouts. Myleigh Bishop had two singles for Cardington.

West Jefferson-Northmor

For the Golden Knights (14-11), Shelby Cooper allowed 10 hits, five walks and four earned runs with three strikeouts. Against West Jefferson (10-11), Kate Kissling and Madison Simpson both singled twice.
