Digging In with J.P. Arencibia: Roy Halladay Hall of Fame Special
The Roy Halladay tale is deeply engrained in the story of the Toronto Blue Jays, but now it takes its place in baseball history as the big right-hander has claimed his spot in Cooperstown.
As a result, we decided to do a special episode of “Digging In with J.P. Arencibia” to appreciate Halladay’s greatness, especially in a Blue Jays uniform.
In the episode we talked to the big right-hander’s teammates from across his Blue Jays career. It starts with Shannon Stewart who played with Halladay from his debut in 1998 through to the middle of his first Cy Young season in 2003. Stewart saw the now Hall of Famer go from top prospect, to bust, to top-notch ace, and recalls the early-career Halladay roller coaster.
Then Frank Catanotto, who joined the club just before Stewart left, joins the show. Catalanotto saw some of Halladay’s best years with the Blue Jays when he established himself as a year-in year-out force at the major league level.
Ricky Romero is the last special guest. Romero pitched alongside Halladay in his rookie year in 2009 and became the next Blue Jays ace. He also shares a story from the end of his former rotation mate’s career when both pitchers were struggling and found their paths cross.
J.P. also speaks on his experiences growing up in a Blue Jays organization with Halladay at the focal point, and Nick discusses what it was like growing up watching him as a fan in Toronto.
