How did they do in Sulphur? LHSAA state title updates for Houma- and Thibodaux-area baseball

Two Houma- and Thibodaux-area high school baseball teams made it to state last weekend, but neither won the state championship.

Once teams make it to Sulphur, playoff rounds go from a three-game series to a single game. For teams in Divisions I, II, and III, this could potentially represent a major change. But for teams in Divisions IV and V, there's no change as every playoff round was one game.

Here's how each of the local teams did in Sulphur.

Covenant Christian Academy

As the No. 2 seed in Division IV select, CCA was almost certainly favored over 11-seed Glenbrook in the semifinals, looking to advance to the first state title game in program history. However, despite the Lions taking a 2-0 lead in the early innings, the Panthers shocked the state with a 3-2 comeback win to go to the title game.

Vandebilt Catholic

Unlike CCA, the third-seeded Terriers could be seen as an underdog against No. 2 Teurlings Catholic. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, and VCHS trailing by two, sophomore Spencer Guilbeau ripped a single to right field to tie the game. However, TCHS walked off in the bottom of the seventh to clinch a spot in the state title game, 3-2.
