Yahoo Sports’ lead draft analyst Eric Edholm shares his evaluation of the Heisman Trophy winning wide receiver from Alabama.
ERIC EDHOLM: Good reason why they call Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith the Slim Reaper. Coming off perhaps one of the greatest college football seasons ever by a wideout, and he won the Heisman Trophy while leading his team to a national title.
He's an incredible route runner. He has very reliable hands and could take the top off of the defense. But as you might know, we're not talking about Julio Jones here body-wise. He's 170 pounds and may not get much bigger. You just don't see wide receivers in the NFL level having success on the outside at that weight.
Very tricky to find a comp for him, but we see some Emmanuel Sanders in him, perhaps a little taller and a little lighter.
