Devils sign Kevin Bahl to two-year contract extension

The Devils announced Monday that they’ve reached an agreement with their last remaining restricted free agent, as defenseman Kevin Bahl has signed a two-year contract extension with the team.

The deal is worth a total of $2.1 million and has an average annual value of $1.05 million.

New Jersey acquired Bahl from the Coyotes in 2019 in the Taylor Hall trade.

He made his NHL debut during the 2021 season, but last season was the first Bahl received an extended run, appearing in a career-high 42 games and posting eight points (two goals, six assists) during the regular season.

Bahl added an assist in his first career postseason action.

The physical six-foot-six defenseman began using his size more as he also recorded 35 penalty minutes on the year, including his first career fight. He also finished with a career-high 64 hits, which finished tied for tenth on the team.

Bahl figures to slot back in on the Devils’ third defensive pairing this season.
