Game notes: Olson dominated in his final five starts last season with a 1.44 ERA across 31⅓ innings. Olson, 24, started 18 of his 21 appearances as a rookie last season, going 5-7 with a 3.99 ERA. This will be his second outing of the spring, after he was lit up in the opener vs. the New York Yankees five days ago, allowing two runs, walking three and hitting a batter in 1⅔ innings. He spoke a few days ago revealing what he needs to do this year to succeed.

Whitlock, 27 and entering his fourth MLB season, started 10 of 22 appearances with Boston last season, earning a 5.15 ERA. He first two seasons were mostly out of the bullpen, and he holds a 3.51 ERA in 99 career games pitched.
