Game notes: The Tigers weren't able to salvage a game vs. the Minnesota Twins this week and will look to play a better series vs. the Dodgers. Alexander has struggled after beginning the year with five scoreless innings. He was charged with three runs in the sixth inning alone vs. the Boston Red Sox on April 12. Then the lefty gave up two unearned runs, walked two and recorded just three outs vs. the New York Yankees. Alexander couldn't complete the fourth inning last time out vs. the Colorado Rockies, allowing five runs on eight hits.
Anderson, a 2011 first-round draft pick of the Rockies, will make his second start of the season. He was OK against San Diego, allowing two runs and walking three in 4⅔ innings. But in two appearances before that, he came in as a multi-inning reliever, allowing two runs over eight combined innings.
The teams have another late start Saturday night when the Tigers send a rookie to the mound to oppose Clayton Kershaw, before a 4:10 p.m. game Sunday.
