Detroit Lions shock everyone with terrible first half against Baltimore Ravens

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson carries the ball past Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson during the first half on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, in Baltimore.

The Detroit Lions looked half-asleep in the first half Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, spanked on both sides of the ball to fall behind 28-0.

Not a single thing went right for the Lions in the first 30 minutes, who were outgained by a margin of 355 to 97 yards. Detroit did not manage to pick up a first down on its first three drives on offense, while allowing the Ravens to finish each of their first four drives with a touchdown.

The beatdown came completely out of left field after the Lions sat tied atop of the NFL standings through six weeks with a 5-1 record. The Ravens, however, looked like they were head and shoulders above the Lions, which not many would've predicted before Sunday.

Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson made a strong case to be a midseason candidate to win his second MVP with his first-half performance. He torched the Lions for 255 passing yards, 26 rushing yards, and three total touchdowns (one rushing) while completing 17 of 21 passes.

NFL teams are 2-299 when trailing by 28 or more at the half.

The Ravens then scored on their first possession of the third quarter on Mark Andrews' second touchdown reception from Jackson for a 35-0 lead.

Here is what Lions fans and media members were saying about the rout in Baltimore:

For those who are Michigan State and Lions fans, it has been an absolutely terrible 24 hours of football fandom.
