Detroit Lions look dangerous in 36-27 win over Washington Commanders

The Detroit Lions started fast vs. the Washington Commanders, then held on for a 36-27 win Sunday at Ford Field to improve to 1-1 on the young NFL season.

The Lions dominated the first half for a 22-0 lead, then allowed four second-half touchdowns to Carson Wentz and the Commanders (1-1). But the Lions' offense responded with scores of their own when Washington twice cut the deficit to one possession. They scored at least 30 points for the third straight game dating to last season's finale, a 37-30 win over Green Bay. It's the first time the Lions have reached that mark since 1952-53.

Amon-Ra St. Brown scored two touchdowns, his sixth consecutive game with a TD, and rookie No. 2 pick Aidan Hutchinson registered three first-half sacks and played through an injured right leg in the second half.

Jared Goff threw four touchdowns without a turnover for 256 yards passing, and D'Andre Swift and Josh Reynolds also caught touchdown receptions.

The Lions next Sunday face their first road test of the season with a visit to NFC North rival Minnesota. The Vikings will be coming off a short week, as they finish the Week 2 slate at Philadelphia on Monday Night.
