Decatur lacrosse teams defeat Parkside, JMB to clinch spots in Maryland quarterfinals

The Regional Champions for local high school lacrosse have been decided, as four Bayside South squads went toe-to-toe in Berlin on Monday, competing for a spot in the state quarterfinals.

The first game in the doubleheader was the Boys Regional Final, with Parkside traveling to Berlin in hopes of pulling off an upset over the Decatur Seahawks. It would take overtime to decide the winner between the two Bayside South squads, and a game-winning goal in OT by Evan Oglesby clinched the 8-7 victory and the 2A East Regional title for Decatur, and sent the Seahawks to the state quarterfinals.

Decatur's Evan Oglesby (24) runs to the Kent Island goal Friday, April 19, 2024, in Berlin, Maryland. Decatur defeated Kent Island 14-11.

Next up was the Girls Lacrosse Regional, where Stephen Decatur hosted James M. Bennett. After leading 5-2 in the first half, Decatur would score nine goals in the second half as they cruised to a 14-3 victory.

Both Decatur lacrosse teams are set to host state quarterfinal matchups on Wednesday. The boys team will host defending state champion Kent Island in a rematch of this year's Bayside Championship game, in which Kent Island defeated Decatur, and the girls team for Decatur will host Hereford.
