On this day: Boston scores 2nd-highest point total vs. Baltimore Bullets

On this day in Boston Celtics history, the storied franchise tied their own record for the most points scored in an NBA game taking place in the regular season since the advent of the shot clock era. The record was set with a 153-107 obliteration of the (then) Baltimore Bullets (now, Washington Wizards).

The win tied identical high scores by the Celtics against the Philadelphia Warriors (now Golden State) in 1962, and against the Detroit Pistons two seasons prior, trailing only a nearly impossible to believe 173-point total scored against the (then) Minneapolis Lakers (now, Los Angeles) in 1959.

Wing John Havlicek led the Celtics with 33 points, 10 assists, and as many rebounds.

Point guard Jo Jo White added 25 points, 5 boards, and 9 assists, while Steve Kuberski and Don Chaney chipped in 22 points apiece.

Hondo’s triple-double was joined by double-doubles from  Kuberski and big man Dave Cowens, and the Celtics had seven players score in double figures in the win.
