Daviess baseball beats Hancock for 2nd straight win

Daviess County picked up its second straight baseball win, beating Hancock County 8-3 at DC’s Panther Park.

DC beat Owensboro 9-3 on Tuesday night for a big 9th District victory. Daviess County is now 11-11 on the season 1-2 in the district.

Daviess County swung the bats well against Hancock and Owensboro. DC had nine hits against Hancock and drew 11 walks.

Brody Brubaker was 4-for-4 to lead DC’s hitting with four singles, and he also had three stolen bases. Brayden Wells did work as well in the eighth spot in the batting order, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. A single in the bottom of the third by Wells scored two runs.

Sean Page, Brett Poole, Lucas Ward and Gavin Howard each had two walks for DC in the game. Brubaker, Gage Hagan and Logan Mewes each scored two runs for DC.

“Our approach the last couple of games has been good,” Daviess County coach Austin Clay said. “It’s a different style of pitching than we saw Tuesday night.

That was gearing up for the fastball, tonight they were mixing stuff more. We were seeing the ball a long time and we did a good job with that. Swings were good, we took what they gave us.”

Brodie Tucker picked up the pitching win for the Panthers, allowing four hits and two runs in six innings. Tucker struck out five and walked three.

“Brodie every time he’s pitched he’s given us a shot to win,” Clay said. “He’s a competitor and gets after it out there.”

Daviess County had 10 hits against Owensboro on Tuesday and Mewes finished with nine strikeouts and three walks.

“Against Owensboro Mewes would probably tell you he didn’t have his best stuff the first couple of innings, but he really found it toward the end of the game, he battled,” Clay said.

Jack Roberts was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Hancock County. Louden Fluharty was 2-for-4 for Hancock. Dec Lewko took the pitching loss for Hancock County (4-13).

Daviess County will play at Owensboro Catholic on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Independence Bank Field and Chautauqua Park.
