David Ojabo selected in 2022 NFL draft
It’s been something of an adventure for Scotland native edge rusher David Ojabo, and not always of the pleasant variety.
The Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Academy outside linebacker had to wait his turn and develop — especially because he was new to football — before he could showcase his superior athleticism. But, in his third year with Michigan football, he finally got to do just that.
It all started in Week 4 at Wisconsin, when he had something of a coming out party. From there, Ojabo supplanted starter Taylor Upshaw as the Wolverines’ premier pass rusher alongside Aidan Hutchinson, who was selected No. 2 overall by the Detroit Lions on Thursday.
Ojabo was looked as a potential top 10 pick after amassing 11 sacks in his third year, but those expectations came crashing down on Michigan’s pro day, when he tore his Achilles’ tendon during the workout.
He slipped out of the first round, but, despite the injury, he still ended up being a day two selection, having been picked in the second round by the Baltimore Ravens with the No. 45 overall pick on Friday.
Ojabo’s selection makes him the third Wolverine off the board, behind Hutchinson at No. 2 and safety Dax Hill, who was picked at No. 31 by the Cincinnati Bengals.
