Every NFL off-season, there is perpetually a lot going on. Players are being cut, signed, and drafted into the NFL. Not every off-season is absolute, but just like life itself, it’s a work in progress. The Miami Dolphins this 2016 NFL off-season sure have been busy.

The Dolphins hired their new head coach in the form of Adam Gase. Miami has also drafted Laremy Tunsil, Xavien Howard, Kenyan Drake, Leonte Carroo, Jakeem Grant, Jordan Lucas, Brandon Doughty, and Thomas Duarte.

In free agency, the Miami Dolphins have been very productive and occupied for almost the entirety of the spring and summer. The Dolphins had a plethora of linebackers — including Brandon Spikes, former Lions linebacker Jerry Franklin, and Danny Lansanah — all visit the team for some tryouts this past offseason.

It is now being reported that Miami and linebacker Danny Lansanah are extremely close to signing a contract should he pass his physical exam. Danny Lansanah is not a household name but he like running back Arian Foster knows the exertion of the NFL. Lansanah was signed off the Jets’ practice squad by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.

He essentially was a practice squad and reserve linebacker without any playing time. Lansanah got his first big break when he ascended to the starting outside linebacker spot when injuries took Jonathan Casillas out an action.

Becoming the starter, Lansanah has flourished in Lovie Smith’s Tampa two Defense, finishing the 2014 season with 81 combined tackles, 1.5 Sacks and three interceptions. Two of those interceptions were also returned for touchdowns. He was highly touted by Smith and the defensive coaching staff for his adaptability.

Now Danny Lansanah is a member of the Miami Dolphins. There’s no telling how well he will do but if he can prosper in in Lovie Smith’s Tampa two Defense, then he should unquestionably do well with Vance Joseph’s aggressive attacking zone scheme defense. This isn’t a big fish, but this type of move does add depth at linebacker.

The Miami Dolphins are definitely looking at all their alternatives from what I can tell and this is a good sign because it showing me if there’s room to improve our team, or add depth, or just to see what else is out there, the Dolphins and new regime and new head coach are all on the same page and won’t accept mediocrity.
