Dan Campbell: I think Hendon Hooker will practice this week

Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker has not participated in a practice with the team since being drafted in the third round this year, but that could change this week.

Hooker tore his ACL late in his final season at Tennessee and has been doing rehab work, throwing, and taking part in meetings while on the non-football injury list. He will be able to practice with the team for three weeks once he's designated for return and head coach Dan Campbell said at a Monday press conference that "I think we will" open that window this week.

"By rules, we can’t coach him," Campbell said, via Justin Rogers of the Detroit News. "We can have him in meetings, but he can't be out there and going through any fundamental work. You just kind of got to stand there. That's where it helps, to be able to actually do individual work with him, have him take a snap. That's why it's big. It would be nice to be able to do some of those things with him. That's why you have to get him on the roster. Otherwise, the rules don't allow for him to do any of that."

Once the three-week period is up, the Lions would have to put Hooker on the 53-man roster or shut him down for the year. Given the long layoff and the presence of Teddy Bridgewater behind Jared Goff, Hooker will be unlikely to play even if he is activated.
