Curt Schilling's trailer full of Hurricane Harvey supplies broke down in Tennessee

Former major league pitcher and broadcaster Curt Schilling was stranded on the side of I-40 near Nashville after his trailer full of supplies for Hurricane Harvey victims broke down on Saturday.

Schilling himself sent out a call for assistance in a video posted to Twitter.

Schilling noted that his vehicle has a broken axle, which will obviously prevent him from continuing his trek. News Channel 5 in Nashville has a crew on the scene that has also sent out a call for help in transporting Schilling’s trailer to Texas.

According to the Boston Globe, Schilling announced that he would begin collecting donations to help those affected by the hurricane earlier this week. Though some were quick to question why Schilling was having donations directed to him instead of to charities involved.

Schilling has been known to stir up controversy with his political views and commentaries over several platforms. In fact, he was fired from his analyst role at ESPN last April after promoting an anti-transgender meme on his Facebook page.

All of that aside, we have no reason to believe Schilling’s effort is anything but honest and genuine. Beyond that, we applaud those who have donated to this and other causes designed to help those in need during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, and we certainly applaud those who are already lending a helping hand to make sure the stranded supplies make it to Texas.
