Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

22:09

Jeers ring around Selhurst Park as Chelsea make it 13 straight wins against Palace in the Premier League with a 3-1 comeback triumph. Pochettino’s side were woeful in the first half, sloppy in possession and eventually punished when Lerma rocketed in his 30th-minute opener that was also his first goal for the club. Sending on Nkunku at the break, the Blues immediately responded as former Eagles loanee Gallagher swept home from Gusto’s right-wing centre. This London derby seemed destined for a point apiece as the game wore on, only for Gallagher to double his account and make it 2-1 with a 92nd-minute finish from Palmer’s cutback pass. Palmer would add his second assist just minutes later, breaking away on the counter-attack before rolling through for Fernandez to coolly beat Henderson. It is a cruel blow for Hodgson’s side, who are 15th and just five points clear of 18th-placed Everton – who Palace face on Monday. Chelsea sit 10th in the league table before visiting Manchester City on Saturday. Until then, Gallagher will be the toast of the blue side of west London. That is all we have time for here, until next time – goodbye for now!

FULL-TIME: CRYSTAL PALACE 1-3 CHELSEA

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

22:05

Out of his 15 Premier League strikes, 12 of Gallagher's top-flight goals have either drawn his side level (four) or put them one goal in the lead (eight). The Blues midfielder has also scored more top-flight goals against Palace (four) than he has against any other team. What a time to step up!

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

22:05

Selhurst Park is emptying at a rapid pace as Nkunku sees a deflected strike sent behind for a corner. Palace are beaten and the full-time whistle will soon be upon us.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

22:04

From the touchline, Jackson speeds over to the Chelsea fans to celebrate Fernandez's late strike. The Blues striker is cautioned, despite being brought off earlier in the half!

Disasi is cautioned for his overzealous celebrations after Gallagher's late goal, which will surely prove to be the winner for the visitors.

SAVE! Fernandez goes down and wins a free-kick after Ayew's late challenge from behind. The Argentina midfielder fails to find a team-mate inside the area, though Sterling keeps it alive with a left-wing cross. Disasi rises the highest but heads straight at Henderson from close range.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:56

Chelsea have won four of their last six Premier League London derbies (D1 L1), including each of their last three, having failed to win six on the bounce prior to this run. However, the Blues need a late salvaging act to steal all three points here.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:55

Hughes created more chances (four) than any other player in the match before going off, only once previously has he created more chances in a Premier League game (five for Watford against West Ham in November 2017).

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:55

Edouard dispossesses Caicdeo before gliding around numerous Chelsea tackles, eventually driving a left-footed effort that Chilwell blocks in front of Petrovic's goal. That was a late scare for the visitors.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:53

Palace want a free-kick and what would appear to be a red card for Colwill, who lunges and brings down Mateta outside the area. However, referee Oliver deems the Palace striker to have come through the back of the Chelsea centre-back, awarding a free-kick to the visitors instead.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:52

Franca has impressed on his first Premier League start but comes off for Edouard, who will add further height to Palace's attack.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:52

Palmer opens up the Palace defence with a deft throughball but Sterling's touch is poor and the hosts recover. The former Liverpool and Manchester City forward has to do better from there.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:51

Substitution Malo Arthur Gusto Alfie Gilchrist

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:51

Gallagher scored his first Premier League goal of the season, with his 29th shot, only Tottenham's Pedro Porro had more attempts without scoring (37) in the competition this term than the Chelsea midfielder before this game. Can the former Palace loanee inflict further damage in the closing stages?

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:50

Chilwell and Gallagher hover over the wide free-kick before the former's delivery is cleared towards the edge of the area. Palmer rifles a first-time effort back towards Henderson's target but the Palace defence stand firm and block.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:47

Yellow Card Daniel Muñoz Mejía

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:47

Hodgson also makes an alteration, introducing Ahamada for midfielder Hughes.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:47

Pochettino makes his second change, bringing Sterling on for the ineffective Jackson, who failed to have a shot on target in this game.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:47

SAVE! Palmer capitalises on a loose ball before dancing inside and slotting a left-footed strike through Richards' legs. Henderson, despite being unsighted, stays central and makes a routine stop in the middle of his goal.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:44

HUGE STOP! Palace seem to be settling for a point but the Eagles almost strike against the run of play. Franca bursts through the middle before unleashing a fizzing right-footed rocket towards the bottom-left corner. Petrovic sees it all the way, though, and parries away a vital save.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:41

There is an initial delay from Chelsea's corner as Andersen and Colwill shove one another inside the Palace box. Once referee Oliver has calmed the situation down, Gallagher delivers towards the far post, where Richards easily heads away.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:40

The Chelsea players surround referee Oliver after Andersen climbs over the back of Nkunku. The visitors want a penalty but have to settle for a left-sided corner after the VAR sticks with the original decision.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:39

Nkunku has scored two goals in five Premier League appearances for Chelsea, both as a sub and has ended on the losing side in both, against Wolves and Liverpool. He’s one of only two players to score in more than one Premier League game for the Blues and lose both, along with Laurent Charvet. Can the France international make a late impact here?

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:38

Yellow Card Jefferson Andrés Lerma Solís

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:36

OVER! Chelsea are ramping up the pressure. Caicedo glides past Mitchell before Munoz flicks away at the back post. Chilwell receives possession on the edge of the area before blazing a left-footed drive over.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:34

Richards races across on the cover to clear behind when Jackson threatens to break past the Palace defence. Chilwell takes the right-sided corner, delivering towards the near post before Ayew clears.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:33

Munoz overlaps Ayew but cannot wrap his foot around the cross as Petrovic claims at the near post. Palace have offered little in the way of attacking threat since half-time.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:31

Pochettino has won 12 of his 14 Premier League meetings with Palace (D1 L1), more than he’s managed against any other opponent. The Chelsea manager needs another second-half goal to continue that record, though.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:30

WIDE! After scoring the opening goal, Lerma fancies adding another to his tally. Hughes swings a left-sided corner towards the far post, where the Palace midfielder rises the highest but heads well wide of Petrovic's target.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:29

Having dived to block Mateta's close-range effort, Silva gets back to his feet after some medical treatment and appears unable to continue. The Chelsea centre-back limps off for Colwill.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:27

There are some muted appeals for handball as Chilwell's delivery strikes Munoz, though the referee waves play on. Down the other end, Silva is forced into a sliding block when Mateta pulls the trigger. The Chelsea centre-back immediately puts his hand in the air and could require medical attention here.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:26

Palmer almost carves open the Palace defence from the halfway line but Andersen makes a wonderful sliding intervention. Chelsea look the far more likely to add to the scoreline at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:25

Having played out a drab struggle in the first half, this game has become open in the second period and is a far more end-to-end spectacle. Palmer cuts inside and chops through for Jackson, who is needlessly caught offside from slow reactions to the initial move.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:23

Can Gallagher prove the hero once more for the visitors? Out of his 14 Premier League strikes, 11 have either drawn his side level (four) or put them one goal in the lead (seven). The Blues midfield has also scored more top-flight goals against Palace (three) than he has against any other team.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:23

Gallagher throws his arms in the air after a foul is given for a nudge on Hughes. Pochettino is unimpressed on the touchline as well, with the free-kick buying Palace some much-needed breathing room.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:21

WIDE! Palmer is finding more space since being moved to the right-hand side, cutting onto his left foot before driving a low left-footed effort wide to Henderson's left. The Blues appear an entirely different team already.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:19

Gallagher has scored 36 per cent of his Premier League goals at Selhurst Park (5/14), having played for Palace previously on loan. The Chelsea midfielder has his side back in this game here, too.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:18

BLOCK! Andersen turns behind for a corner as Chelsea continue to start brightly after the interval. Gallagher delivers towards the near post, where Silva flicks on and aims for the bottom-right corner. Mateta is on hand, though, making a last-ditch intervention in front of Henderson's goal.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:18

Chelsea have won their last 12 Premier League games against Palace – they’ve never won 13 in a row against an opponent in their league history. Can the Blues kick-on from their early second-half leveller here?

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:15

Assist Malo Arthur Gusto

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:14

Chelsea completed 420 passes in the first half, the most in the opening 45 minutes of a Premier League game without having a shot on target on record (since data collection started in the 2003-04 season). They have to improve now, otherwise the Blues will suffer a humiliating and toothless defeat against their London rivals.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:06

Pochettino wastes no time at the break, sending Nkunku on as a half-time substitute for Madueke, who offered little despite seeing a lot of the ball down the right-hand side in the opening period.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

21:05

Referee Oliver gets the second half under way at Selhurst Park!

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:53

A penny for Pochettino's thoughts. The Chelsea boss has watched on in frustration, with his side managing just under 80 per cent possession before the interval, though that translated into only one shot as Gallagher missed the target on the stroke of half-time. While the visitors desperately need improvements, Hodgson's well-drilled hosts will just be asked for more of the same after the break.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:51

Lerma's first goal for Palace has the Eagles leading 1-0 against Chelsea at half-time in the Premier League. The Selhurst Park hosts have offered little in attack, though all that matters is Lerma's rocketed finish into the top-right corner for the 30th-minute opener. The Blues are yet to have a shot on target and, based on their first-half performance, changes could be aplenty in the next period.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:50

HALF-TIME: CRYSTAL PALACE 1-0 CHELSEA

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:49

Expect jeers from the away end at half-time. Chelsea have been so frustrating, content to work possession at walking pace and allowing Palace to sit deep and absorb pressure. Their toothless attack can only be matched by the Blues' mindless defending, too.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:49

Owing to Caicedo's injury and Lerma's rocketed opener, there will be three additional minutes to end a drab first half devoid of much quality. That is, of course, discounting the fine opening strike from the Palace midfielder, who scored his first goal for the Eagles on his 22nd appearance for the club in all competitions.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:47

WIDE! Finally, Chelsea have an attempt at the Palace goal. Madueke twists and turns before rolling through to the right of goal for Gallagher, who drags a low drive wide of the left-hand post. The former Eagles loanee does not come back to haunt his former side on this occasion.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:46

Gusto's right-wing centre has Gallagher interested before Andersen heads away. Chelsea have to find a way to get Palmer into this game, with their chief creative asset managing just 18 touches so far.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:44

This is just the second time in their last 13 Premier League games against Chelsea that Palace have taken the lead, also doing so in October 2022, going on to lose that game 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:43

Mateta slides through for Munoz, who goes down inside the Chelsea box after a nudge from Silva and, perhaps, Chilwell. The referee waves play on and the VAR sticks with the on-field decision.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:42

Any hopes the opening goal would inject a shock into Chelsea's system has gone amiss. The Blues look as slow and ponderous as when the game was level, with half-time soon approaching at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:40

Disasi and Petrovic fail to communicate as the former is forced to turn out for a throw-in, with Ayew lurking near the left-hand touchline. This has been a strange performance from Chelsea, although not one that is too unusual for their below-par season.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:37

Caicedo stays down after the Franca opportunity. The Chelsea midfielder appears in some discomfort with a left-leg injury, receiving medical attention as the match comes to a temporary halt. The former Brighton man seems fine to continue, though.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:35

WIDE! Another chance comes for Palace on the break. Fernandez's wayward pass allows Mateta to break before the striker offloads to Franca, who fires a disappointing left-footed attempt well wide to Petrovic's left.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:34

The gameplan is working! Hodgson's men have sacrificed any sort of possession, waiting for their chance on the counter-attack before a moment of magic from Lerma. Make no mistake, Chelsea have been poor and Pochettino needs a response immediately.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:31

Goal Jefferson Andrés Lerma Solís

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:31

This is typical Hodgson. Palace are so well-drilled and organised, sitting deep and heading, kicking and clearing any cross that comes towards Henderson's box. Whether the Eagles can profit on the counter-attack remains to be seen.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:28

It remains a subdued encounter at Selhurst Park. Pochettino's side are playing this game like a training-ground exercise in possession, rather than attacking with any pace. Chilwell tries to inject some speed, going down after evading Munoz but the referee and VAR say no penalty.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:27

Look left! Chelsea prioritised their right-hand side in the opening 20 minutes of this game, with 62 per cent of attacks from the visitors coming down that flank. Palmer and Jackson are slotting inside from the opposite winger, though Madueke is completely crowded out every time the Blues insist on attacking through him.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:25

SAVE! A warning sign for Chelsea. Gusto gives possession away and passes straight into Mateta, who curls a right-footed effort straight at Petrovic from the left of the area. The Palace striker barely threatened there.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:23

Chelsea had over 80 per cent possession over the opening 15 minutes of this game, yet it remains goalless at Selhurst Park. It would be expected for the Blues' possessional dominance to continue, though the visiting supporters have had little to get excited about so far.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:21

Chilwell slams a left-wing cross at Munoz and wins the first corner of this match. Gallagher delivers but Lerma clears with ease as the ball bounces through at the near post.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:20

Lerma chips a delicate pass over the top on the counter-attack but Mateta is again caught on his heels and unable to break through on Petrovic's goal. Almost 20 minutes into this game, neither goalkeeper has been tested as of yet.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:18

Chelsea have lost five of their last six away Premier League games (W1), failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their last eight on the road in the league. The Blues seem solid defensively at Selhurst Park but Pochettino needs more in the way of attacking at the moment.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:17

Pass, pass and pass again. Chelsea are in complete control, as has been the case for most of this game in the opening stages, but they keep going backwards instead of finding the gaps in Henderson's defence.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:15

Ayew has won 71 fouls in the Premier League this season, two more than any other player (Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes, 69). The Chelsea defence have no need to keep conceding cheap free-kicks against the Eagles forward.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:15

Hughes hovers over the wide free-kick before delivering towards the far post, where Richards flicks a harmless header well wide of Petrovic's target.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:13

Referee Oliver takes an age to give the obvious decision as Chilwell needlessly pulls on the arms of Ayew. Despite a slow start, the Eagles are growing into this encounter, with a chance to cross from a wide free-kick coming after Fernandez hacks down Hughes.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:11

Munoz hangs a deep cross towards the back post, where Gusto brings the ball down before swinging a clearance away with his weaker foot. Palace come again but Ayew's right-wing cross fails to find the towering Mateta.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:10

Boasting numerous technical players, Pochettino's side are so comfortable working it around from side to side. The challenge remains for the Blues to penetrate the Palace defence, with Jackson and Palmer largely passengers so far.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:07

Mateta touches down a long free-kick before Ayew swivels and rolls a tame snapshot straight at Petrovic. That is the first shot on target at Selhurst Park, where Palace supporters are making all the noise.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:07

The Blues continue their dominance in possession but fail to keep it when Disasi clips down the line for Gusto. Palace are hardly pressing high, seemingly content to manage the game in front of their defence for the time being.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:05

Madueke stands up Franca before buying a cheap foul on the right-hand side. The Chelsea winger takes it quickly before Gusto's centre avoids Jackson's back-post run.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

20:03

Chelsea have lost just two of their 19 Premier League matches on a Monday (W13 D4), winning six of their last seven (D1) since a 2-0 loss to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in February 2020. The Blues have controlled possession in the early stages here.

Pochettino makes one change from the win over Villa in midweek. The injured Benoit Badiashile drops out entirely for Silva, who starts despite recent rumours over his unhappiness with the Chelsea manager and ongoings at Stamford Bridge. Palmer leads the line once again, with Jackson and Madueke on either flank.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

19:46

Hodgson opts for two alterations from the Brighton hammering. Wharton and Franca make their first Premier League starts for Palace, who are without Marc Guehi, while Schlupp drops down to the bench. Andersen captains the Eagles in the absence of his centre-back partner, with Richards moving back to slot in alongside the home side’s skipper. Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise remain out injured.

Similar to Hodgson, questions have started to grow over the tenure of Mauricio Pochettino, whose side have suffered back-to-back humiliating Premier League defeats. Chelsea were thrashed 4-1 at Anfield against Liverpool at the end of January before losing 4-2 to Wolves at Stamford Bridge. The Blues, who somewhat atoned in midweek with an FA Cup victory over Aston Villa, sit 11th in the league table heading into this clash.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

Roy Hodgson is facing increasing scrutiny from sections of Palace supporters after two disappointing defeats either side of a 3-2 victory over Sheffield United in their last home outing. The Eagles were hammered 5-0 by Arsenal before the Blades victory, following that poor showing at the Gunners with a 4-1 reverse on the road against fierce rivals Brighton. The Selhurst Park hosts are 15th in the Premier League but only five points away from the relegation zone and 18th-placed Everton.
