Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

For the fifth successive Premier League meeting at Selhurst Park, Palace and Brighton play out a 1-1 draw. Welbeck's late header rescued a point for the Seagulls after Ayew nodded the hosts in front just before half-time. The point lifts Brighton to eighth place, while the Eagles remain 15th after stretching their winless streak to seven matches. Palace look to stop the streak when they travel to Chelsea next Wednesday, while Brighton host Tottenham the following day. Thank you for joining us today. Until next time, goodbye!

But rather than catch, he looks to punch the ball clear and sends it straight into the face of Welbeck. The ball ricochets towards the goal but, thankfully for the hosts, wide of the target.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:39

JUST OVER! The hosts continue to push for the second goal, which could put the game beyond Brighton. Andersen's precise pass finds Mateta on the edge of the box. The forward makes a yard for himself, before rifling a fierce attempt just over from a tight angle.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:38

GREAT BLOCK! Following a clever shimmy by Mateta, Palace can counter and Eze is free on the left. The striker finds him, but Van Hecke gets across quickly to make a wonderful block.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:33

Henderson called into action again as he races out of goal and Pedro is eventually forced out of play. Although, the offside flag is then raised against the Brighton forward.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:29

A nervy moment for Palace and Henderson, who is unable to gather a cross from the left with several attempts. However, the defence comes to his rescue as they manage to block Van Hecke's strike before clearing.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:29

Substitution Jordan Pierre Ayew Eberechi Oluchi Eze

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:27

Youth has certainly played its part for Brighton in 2023, with nine different teenagers representing them. Only Tottenham (1993) and Middlesbrough (2006) have fielded more teenagers during a calendar year in the Premier League (both 10).

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:26

CHANCE! Another neat move by the visitors sees Mitoma release Gross down the left. The latter crosses to the far post, where Hinshelwood arrives, but is unable to keep his first-time shot down from a tight angle.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:25

GOOD EFFORT! Following a decent spell of Brighton pressure, the ball bounces kindly for Gilmour to strike on the volley. There is plenty of power in the Scotland international's strike, but Henderson is equal to it.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:21

Players making positive impacts from the bench is something Brighton are very accustomed to. In fact, their substitutes have scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season - more than any other side.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

21:19

SAVE! Buonanotte, who has been impressive since coming on, leads Brighton's charge again with a jinking run before feeding Mitoma. The latter cuts inside and gets a shot away, but it is straight at Henderson.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:59

Brighton controlled possession for large periods of the first half, recording 60.5 per cent of it. But from it, they only fashioned two shots on target. Therefore, De Zerbi will be urging his players to show more of a clinical edge upon the restart.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:57

That goal came at an ideal time for Palace, who head into the break with the lead at Selhurst Park. Chances had been few and far between until the first minute of stoppage time, when the hosts pounced on Verbruggen's poor clearance with Olise crossing for Ayew to break the deadlock.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:44

Palace are yet to win any of their five midweek Premier League matches in 2023, losing four. The Eagles also failed to score in each of those defeats.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:42

At the other end, space opens for Gross to try his luck from distance. There is plenty of venom in his attempt, which Henderson is forced to push away to safety.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:28

Ayew stays down in protest following an off-the-ball tangle with Hinshelwood. It looked quite innocuous in all fairness, though, and the Palace forward is soon back on his feet.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:26

Brighton have only lost two of their eight midweek Premier League games in 2023. Although, both of those defeats did come away from home.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:24

Adringra's shot was the first attempt on target as we hit the midway point in the first half. Brighton will look to use that as a platform to build on as they try to get back to winning ways.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:21

GOOD SAVE! Igor's sweeping ball towards the edge of the box evades Hinshelwood and reaches Adingra, who draws a fine reflex save from Henderson. Balepa then sends his volleyed rebound wide of the target.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:19

Palace are the only Premier League side without a home win since the start of October. The Eagles have only recorded a joint-low one victory overall during that time, along with Nottingham Forest and Luton Town.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:13

Can Mateta make a difference for the hosts today? The striker has scored in his last two Premier League matches having failed to do so in the previous 18. You must go back to October 2017, when he was plying his trade with Ligue 2 side Le Havre, for the last time he netted in three successive league games.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:11

There is a fairly subdued atmosphere at Selhurst Park, where Palace have lost each of their last four Premier League games. The Eagles were last beaten five times on the bounce at home in the English top flight between December 2016 and February 2017.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:09

Sunday's defeat at Arsenal ended Brighton's run of 32 successive Premier League matches in which they had scored. The Seagulls look eager to make amends for that today.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:07

Gross is involved again as he takes aim from the edge of the area after a scrappy passage of play culminates in the ball breaking kindly for him. But he drags his effort well wide of the target.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion

20:04

Gross makes a positive run into Palace's half as he looks to connect with Pedro's attempted throughball. However, the hosts are able to cut it out and prevent the ball from reaching the Brighton midfielder, who could well have been bearing down on goal.
