Crawford rolls first 800 series of the season at Crystal Lanes. See latest scores.

It took about a month and a half, but we finally have the first 800 series of the season at Crystal Lanes.

Two or three guys took a legitimate shot at that elusive 800 number this week and Jeff Crawford was the only one to complete the task during action in the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League. After opening the night with a routine 274 game, he ran the sheet after a first frame spare in the second game for a 290 for Madison Mowing. Jeff finished the trim work in game three for a 244 game to finish with an 808 series, the first one of the campaign and the first one of his bowling career.

That same league also had a trio of seven-shooters. Tim DeGraw capped a 769 series with a 288 game while Dennis Costello tossed a 733 and Johnny Miller (the young bowler, not the old golfer) posted a 710 set.

In the Hatfield Real Estate Men’s League, Jim Sjoblom (yes, it’s spelled correctly, you just have to figure out how to pronounce it — problem with an SJ instead of PR) missed eight by the cruelest means. After coming out of the gate with games of 267 and 289, Jim barely missed a ten pin in the tenth frame of game three for a 234 game which gave him a 790 series. That stupid ten pin cost him 800.

There were also four other bowlers over seven in the Hatfield League. Al Farr blasted a 759 series while Jim Sjoblom’s teammates Paul Brion and Jim Pitts registered scores of 734 and 726, respectively. Nick Dobson made it a foursome with a 705 set. That Woodhouse Stadium Grill team fired a 3582 team scratch score, by the way.

One more strike at the right time was all Ben Weiskopff would have needed for his 800 series. After opening with games of 254 and 251 in the Addison Men’s League, Ben finished with a 279 effort for a 784 series. One more strike was all he needed. In that same league, Brandon Harrington tossed a 744 series that featured a 278 game.

In other men’s action, Tim Payne topped the Jubilee Foods Mixed League with a 750 series that included a 277 game and Joey Orchowski paced the Ruth Briggs Memorial Mixed League with a 744 set capped by a 278 game. Al Farr and Dave Cecchini topped seven in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League. Al led the way with a 739 set while Dave chipped in with a 702 total. Jared Kucko led the Tire World Men’s League with a 718 with Jim Pitts adding a 704 set and Doug Madison rolled a 716 series to lead the Sun Legends Bar & Grille Mixed League.

There were eight ladies over the 600 mark in five different leagues this week, but the scoring honors for the gals goes to Meghan Sturdevant with her performance in the Fall Adult/Junior Mixed League.

Meghan, who is just a year or two out of the junior ranks, has been lighting up the scoreboard in the Adult/Junior League but the lights shined no brighter than this week when she blasted a 731 series, the second 700 for the ladies this season. Meghan opened with a 243 game and then soared to a 279 game before finishing the destruction with a 209 game and her 731 series. That big night left her with a 220 average for the season.

Cheryl Rice and Gwen Bain both topped six in ‘The L’ Ladies League this week. Cheryl capped a 652 series with a 246 game while Gwen finished the night with a 254 game on her way to a 635 series.

Three Lane 33 Pro Shop teammates were all on the same 600 page in the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League as Deon Frost, Anita Gennosa and Annie Gross all recorded 600s. Deon led the way with her 636 while Anita featured a 237 game in her 630 set and Annie capped a 617 with a 229 game.

Gwen Bain and Anita Gennosa both got on the 600 board for the second time this week in other leagues. Gwen capped a 636 series with a 253 game to lead the ladies in the Atlas Pizzeria Mixed League while Anita’s 601 set was good enough to pace the ladies in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League. Kim Chimileski put a cap on the ladies sixes when she blasted a 279 game on her way to a 629 in the Jubilee Foods Mixed League.

A dozen seniors topped the 600 mark this week and all but one of them came out of the Chilson-Wilcox Senior Men’s League.

John Stermer paced the 600 parade in the C-W League with a 683 series on games of 216, 229 and 238. He was one of five men in this league to roll three deuces. Tim DeGraw was next with a 673 (227-225-221) followed by Mike Donovan’s 663 (225-213-223) and then Steve Shattuck with a 661 (209-242-210. Ken Mattison’s 647 set came on games of 215, 222 and 210. It’s been a while since this league accomplished this feat.

Not to be outdone, Steve Crozier Sr. stormed out of the gate with a 269 on his way to a 644 while Bruce Stanton hit 636 and Mike Goltry rolled a 629 with Ron Bush coming away with a 627. John Arnold and Warren Baker closed out the sixes with 618 each.

Mike Hughson got the only other senior six when he led the Go-Getters Mixed League with a 674 series that was capped by a 280 game.

In what has become a common happening in the junior leagues at Crystal Lanes, two more scores over 700 were registered by the youngsters. Camryn Stefanini grabbed the junior honors while competing in the CIBA Jr./Sr. Mixed League where he capped a 749 series with a 269 game. That same league saw Mike Rennels finish a 692 set with a 255 game while Cameron Kennedy rolled a 652 and Andrew Bauman toss a 613. Zack Crown made it four sixes with a 609 series.

Zachery Sturdevant topped seven for the second week in a row. This time he paced the youth portion of the Fall Adult/Junior Mixed League with a 717 series on games of 257, 213 and 247. Cameron Kennedy and PJ Nelson also topped six in this league. Cameron rolled a 672 while PJ came away with a 631 total.

We’re gonna close out this week with Oliver Sturdevant’s accomplishment. This 8-year-old in the CIBA Bantam/Prep League rolled a 400 series on games of 102, 134 and 164. That 164 game and 400 series were his highest marks ever. Something tells me those marks won’t last very long.
