Crawford County Football Rewind | Week 2

Week 2 of the high school football season is in the books and there were some phenomenal games and even better performances in Crawford County.

Three teams remain undefeated, one moved to .500 and the other two are still winless after scoring only 12 total points in two weeks.

Let's take a look at this week's Football Rewind.

Best performance(s)

A bruising fullback, a dual-threat quarterback and a dynamic rusher share top honors this week as their teams all won in Week 2.

Colonel Crawford's Micah Thomas found himself in the end zone 30% of the time he touched the ball, scoring three touchdowns on 10 carries for 122 yards. All three came in the first half as the Eagles finished with 369 yards rushing against Cardinal Stritch.

Buckeye Central's Derex Dean continued his hot start to the season with a huge performance against Fremont St. Joseph. He was 11-for-14 passing for 216 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing four times for 20 yards and adding two more scores on the ground. For the cherry on top, he punted once for 36 yards.

Wynford's Anthony Evans carried the ball 16 times for 172 yards and two touchdowns in the team's win over Pleasant. He accounted for 61% of the Royals' offense.

Other notable performances

Galion's Braxton Prosser threw for 107 yards, completing 71.4% of his attempts with two touchdowns, also rushing for 25 yards on four carries. Gabe Ivy gutted out 53 yards on the ground against a stifling Carey defense and nabbed a key interception late in the game.

Colonel Crawford's Connor McMichael rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on six carries, Trevor Vogt threw a touchdown pass to Lucas Foy and returned a second half kickoff 67 yards for another score.

Buckeye Central's Heath Jensen hauled in five receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns, Jack Phillips caught a 48-yard touchdown pass and rushed for two more. Isaac Hiler toted the ball 14 times for 103 yards and a touchdown, Dom Dean carried it seven times for 74 yards and a score.

Bucyrus' Jacob Green had a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown as the team's lone score in a 61-point loss.

Surprises

A total of 350 points were scored in the six games featuring Crawford County teams — 350! Fortunately two teams were on the winning side of two blowouts, but two more were outscored by a 130-6 margin and remain the lone winless teams in the area through two weeks.

Galion had an early season statement win over Carey at home avenging back-to-back losses against the Blue Devils and has a ton of momentum heading into the nonleague finale next week.

Our two teams along OH-602, Buckeye Central and Colonel Crawford, outscored their opponents 134-13 to remain undefeated. The Bucks held Fremont SJCC to -2 yards on the night and didn't allow the quarterback to complete a single pass (0-for-17) while totaling 482 yards of offense themselves. The Eagles hung 50 on Cardinal Stritch in the first half and had 499 yards of offense on the night to ensure a much earlier return home than in Week 1.

Wynford grinded out an impressive win over an also improved Pleasant team for its first win of the season. It was the type of game that truly showed how far the Royals have come to gain a lead, see it start to slip away, but hold on for the victory. This is a team that is going to continue to get better each week and one nobody will want to face soon.
