If any Ravens player could be confident of their position in Baltimore heading into the 2017 season it would have to be placekicker Justin Tucker. Tucker has done everything that Baltimore has asked him to do during his seasons with the Ravens. Coaches often talk about the importance of special teams but Tucker’s performance is proof positive that great kickers are hard to find and when you find one it’s best to hold onto them.
Tucker in his sixth year out of Texas scored a franchise record 141 points for second-best in the NFL behind only Matt Bryant of Atlanta who had 158 points on the season. That turned out to be the only category that Justin Tucker was second in during the 2016 season as he tore up the NFL record book. Here is a look at more of his impressive numbers.
• Tucker’s 38 FGs made ranked No. 1 in the NFL. He was also 27- of-27 on PATs. An NFL single-season record 24 of Tucker’s 38 FGs made in 2016 came from 40 yards or beyond.
• Tucker’s 10 FGs of 50-plus yards are a Ravens’ single-season record. They tie (Blair Walsh, 2012) for the most in NFL history. (Tucker was a perfect 10-for-10 from 50 yards and out in 2016.)

The only thing left to do for Justin Tucker in my mind is to kick the game-winning field goal in the AFC championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers from beyond 50 yards and then follow it up in the Super Bowl with a game-winning kick from well beyond 50 yards. Judging by the numbers Justin Tucker is more than capable of handling those historic moments in the spotlight.
