Could Rajon Rondo eventually coach the Celtics?

During a recent interview on JJ Redick’s ‘Old Man and the 3’ podcast, former Boston Celtics champion Rajon Rondo revealed how he tries to out-coach the coaches he plays against. In a viral moment from the interview, Rondo discusses how he once tried to outthink Brad Stevens during the 2017 playoffs before he went down with an injury.

In a recent episode of the “Green With Envy” podcast, the hosts discuss whether Rondo’s cerebral style of play and high basketball IQ are indicators of a future head coach in the NBA. Of course, the discussion then evolved into whether Rondo could eventually find himself leading the Celtics as their head coach.

Rondo hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2021-22 season, where he split his time between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. After missing his age-36 season, it’s unlikely the talented guard will make a return to the NBA as a player.
