Is it possible for winning in sport to matter too much? That might be the case in Buenos Aires, where passions ran so high in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final second leg that it was postponed twice. The rescheduled match between fierce rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate will now take place at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium—over 6,000 miles away from the city in which the teams play.

The decision to move the landmark game away from South America is a bad one. In fact, the game should not be played at all…
