Constantine boys track first at 41st annual home invite

CONSTANTINE — The Constantine boys track and field team claimed first place at the 41st annual Constantine Invitational held on Friday. The Falcons piled up 161 points for first, White Pigeon came in second with 106 and Bronson placed sixth at 50 points.

The Quincy girls picked up first place, totaling 181 points for the day. Bronson was a distant second in second with 99, Constantine came in third with 88 and White Pigeon placed fifth with 67.

Constantine had two student-athletes each win two events. Alex Avila ran to first place in the mile (4:51.04) and the two-mile (10:48.99). Bennett VandenBerg won a pair of throwing events. He claimed first in the shot put (50-8 feet) and the discus (164-8 feet).

Rushawn James finished second in the 400 (51.91) and Brody Jones was second in the pole vault, clearing 13-feet. James was second in the long jump as well at 19-11.75 feet. The mile relay team of Isaac Moore, Jones, Logan Patmalnieks and James ran to a time of 3:33.05.

White Pigeon's Jordan Pisco won a pair of events. He claimed first in the high jump at 6-2 feet and ran to first in the 110 hurdles at 15.45. Josh Davidson ran to first in the 400 at 51.62, Bronson's Boston Bucklin ran to first in the 800 at 2:10.16.

White Pigeon won the mile relay. Davidson, Pisco, Drew Kobryn and Mekhi Singleton teamed up for a time of 3:32.58.

For the girls, Kailee Jones of Constantine won three events. She ran to first in the 800 (2:35.46) and the mile run at 5:52.06. She was also a part of the mile relay team with Jaedyn Herlein, Abigail Flores and Kaitlyn Jones which ran a winning time of 4:22.10.

Bronson's Jaiden Hayes ran to first in the 100 (13.78). Kaitlyn Jones finished first in the 400 with a time of 1:03.72. Hayes was also first in the long jump, covering 14-5 feet.

The Vikings won the 400 relay as Itzel Albarran, Addison Calloway, Miriam Sanchez and Hayes ran to first at 55.19. Constantine then won the 800 relay with Flores, Kaitlyn Jones, Cassidy Walker and Herlein posting a time of 1:53.58.

Constantine also won the mile relay. Herlein, Flores, Kailee Jones and Kaitlyn Jones posted a time of 4:22.10 in that one.

Sydney McClure was first overall in the shot put at 34-2.5 feet. Bronson's Skylar Smith finished first at 88-10 feet. Smith also finished first in the high jump at 4-10 feet.

John Green Relays

The Union City track and field teams ran away with first place finishes at the John Green Relays in Mendon on Friday. The Chargers scored 132.5 points for the girls and 134.5 points for the boys.

The Centreville boys took second (120) followed by Mendon (94). Centreville finished third for the girls (90.5) and Mendon placed sixth (45.5).

Jack McCaw was the fastest man on scene, winning the 100 dash at 11.42. Deandre Stout won the 200 at 23.66. McCaw also won the long jump at 21-10.25 feet.

Max Yoder of Centreville claimed first in the pole vault, he cleared 11-0 feet.

Centreville won the 400 relay as Carter Cartier, Brendan Sre, Declan Kane and Stout ran a time of 45.09. The Bulldogs also claimed first in the 800 relay with Cartier, Kane, Stout and Cohen Longacre posting a time of 1:36.15.

For the girls, Centreville won the mile relay. The team of Ninon Gontier, Arianna Six, Berkley Shingledecker and Ellie Reed ran to a 4:27.70 time to win.

Leah Roberts was first overall in the high jump, clearing 4-10 feet. Ellie Miller won the long jump at 15-9.5 feet.
