Diman co-op hockey opens the season strong: Top performers (Dec. 8-9)

FALL RIVER — The Diman co-op hockey team opened the season strong on Saturday, blanking league opponent Blue Hills at home, 9-0.

Landen Freitas led the Bengals with two goals and two assists. Bryce Medeiros collected four assists while freshmen Kane Aguiar, Gavin Peters, and Jack Bouchard each scored their first high school goals.

Freshmen Matt Almeida also recorded his first high school point with an assist. Freshmen goaltender Trent Souza picked up his first high school shutout. Defensively, Diman was outstanding and allowed just 13 shots.

The Bengals (1-0) host Mt. Hope on Wednesday.

Track and Field

The Raiders track and field team participated in the MSTCA Winter Festival on Saturday and fared well. Notable performances for SBR include Camden Rose who placed first overall in the 300 race with a time of 36.84, breaking the school record (previously 37.17). Rose qualified for the Division 3 state championship meet. Joseph Ramos also qualified for the state meet in the shot put with a throw of 42'5". Hutch Mosely threw the shot put 40'6.75". David Perry and Luke Thornton ran the 55 dash, finishing 7.03 and 7.26, respectively. Ashley O'Donovan ran the 300 in 49.56.

Wrestling

The Hilltoppers wrestling team competed at the Devin Ness Tournament Saturday and placed 12th out of 14 teams. Place winners for Durfee were Alicia Warren, Haley Primo, Josh Yentz, Kayden Chaney, Seth Chuon, Ladaynian Mendes, Lehi Ramos and Jomo Kieta.

Friday

Boys Basketball

Jah Stephenson scored 31 points in his season debut to lead the Hilltoppers to a 83-72 win over East Boston in the season opener for both teams. Senior guard Jeyden Espinal netted 26 points and Eric Lucas added 10 points. Davontae Stewart had seven points and had double-digits in rebounds. Durfee (1-0) travels to O'Bryant on Monday.

The Tritons dropped their season opener on the road against Old Colony, 83-61. Atlantis Charter is right back at on Wednesday when they host Sturgis Charter.

Girls Basketball

The Hilltoppers won their season opener, beating non-league Fairhaven at home, 54-12. Maddie Hargraves finished in double figures with 10 points. Julia Hargraves had nine points and Mya Hayes Paulette added eight points in the win.
