Connecticut Sun select Kansas women’s basketball’s Taiyanna Jackson in 2024 WNBA draft

LAWRENCE — Taiyanna Jackson’s stellar college career with Kansas women’s basketball has led to being selected in the WNBA draft.

Jackson, a super-senior center this past season for the Jayhawks, was picked up by the Connecticut Sun. The Sun drafted her in the second round with the 19th overall pick. And she becomes the latest from KU to earn the honor.

During Jackson’s time at Kansas, she became one of the best defensive talents in the Big 12 Conference — not to mention the nation. She thrived around talented guards like Holly Kersgieter and Zakiyah Franklin, also super-seniors this past season. Overall, across the past few seasons Jackson spent with the Jayhawks, she started all 99 games she played and averaged 12.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game.

Jackson’s presence helped deliver some of the best Kansas seasons in recent memory. She helped the team to the NCAA tournament in 2022 and 2024, with a 2023 Postseason WNIT championship in between. Both of those NCAA tournament trips saw the Jayhawks advance to the round of 32.
