Comedy of errors by Senators help Luongo reach 450 wins
In the first period of the game between the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers the two teams combined for five goals.
It looked like if Roberto Luongo was going to earn his 450th career win he might need a little luck on his side.
And for being such a good soldier, the hockey gods smiled down upon Bobby Lu and gave him a meltdown by the Sens.
By the end of the second, the Panthers erased a 4-2 deficit to tie the game.
Just shy of midway through the third, a puck handling blunder by Mike Condon allowed for Jonathan Marchessault to steal the puck and put Florida ahead.
The score stayed at 5-4 until Ottawa pulled the netminder. Jason Demers settles the puck in the neutral zone and fires it on the open net.
The puck hits perfectly coifed defenseman Erik Karlsson’s stick as he tries to stop the puck. Instead it deflects right into the empty net.
(Can you hear that? It’s all the Los Angeles Kings fans yelling things about ‘Drew Doughty’ and ‘Norris Trophy.’)
Derick Brassard made things interesting by scoring 22 seconds later; however the Panthers held on to win, 6-5 giving Luongo his 450th career win.
