Colts select DE Kwity Paye in Daniel Jeremiah’s mock draft

Though the 2020 NFL draft is still months away and the Indianapolis Colts are still working down their big board, mock drafts are already flying about.

In his first mock draft of the offseason, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network has the Colts going with a big position of need. However, it doesn’t come on the offensive side of the ball.

Jeremiah has Indy taking former Michigan edge rusher Kwity Paye with the No. 21 overall pick.

The Colts need to address the quarterback spot after Philip Rivers’ retirement. I could see them trading for Sam Darnold or Carson Wentz. I also wouldn’t rule out a trade-up scenario for one of the top four QBs in this draft class. If they stick and pick, I like Paye’s upside as an edge rusher. He’s raw, but the talent is there.

Paye is most likely on the board for the Colts. Even with big needs at quarterback and left tackle—two positions that are in play for the first-round pick—adding to the edge rush is quite the need for Indy.

While DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart have shored up the interior, the Colts need more production from their edge rushers. Justin Houston, Denico Autry and Al-Quadin Muhammad are all set to be free agents this offseason while the Colts got nearly nothing out of Kemoko Turay and Ben Banogu.

Paye is known for his ability to bend the corner, the Colts could certainly use more of that when it comes to their edge rush. Though there won’t be an NFL combine this offseason, his pro day could intrigue the Colts to target him in the first round.
