Colts scouting QB Kenny Pickett at Pitt pro day

In the least shocking news of this offseason, the Indianapolis Colts were represented at Pittsburgh’s pro day Monday, which featured quarterback prospect Kenny Pickett.

Even with the Colts trading for veteran quarterback Matt Ryan on Monday, it’s likely that general manager Chris Ballard will keep an eye on the quarterback class in 2022. It appears to be a mixed bag, but Pickett finds himself near the top.

According to Johnny McGonigal of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, every team except the Los Angeles Rams were represented. McGonigal didn’t mention Ballard or Frank Reich by name as he did with some other teams so it’s fair to assume the Colts sent an area scout to the pro day.

Barring a massive change in his draft stock, Pickett is likely out of reach for the Colts. Even if he doesn’t go within the top-10 picks, it’s likely he goes too far ahead for the Colts to move up and grab him if they really want him.

What makes the situation more difficult is that other teams in the middle of the first round also need quarterbacks. So if the Colts have their eyes on a prospect other than Pickett, it’s going to take a lot to move up.

Sitting at No. 42 overall with the No. 73 overall pick as well, the Colts have the chance to move up into the 20s.

Pickett likely won’t be there but the Colts are still doing their homework on every quarterback in the draft.
