Colts’ Carson Wentz dealing with injuries to both ankles

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz exited Sunday’s 27-24 loss against the Los Angeles Rams because of an ankle injury. Now, it appears he’s dealing with an injury on both of his ankles.

The 28-year-old quarterback rolled his ankle in a pretty rough way when being tackled by Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald late in the fourth quarter on Sunday.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Wentz is dealing with two ankle injuries and is undergoing more tests on Monday to diagnose the severity.

The human body can only take so much when being hit 21 times in the span of two games. Given Wentz’s injury history, this was always a possibility.

The offensive line has kept Wentz under constant duress to open the season. In both games, Wentz has been running for his life. Much of it has to do with the 13 pressures allowed from Julién Davenport, who has had to fill in at both left and right tackle because of injuries elsewhere.

Wentz has been steady through the pressure, though, and that has been encouraging. In two games, he’s completed 65.9% of his passes for 498 yards, three touchdowns, one interception and a 95.0 passer rating.

If Wentz has to miss time because of the ankle injuries, the Colts will turn to second-year quarterback Jacob Eason.
