Are Colts the best free-agent fit for G Isaac Seumalo?
The Indianapolis Colts are entering the offseason with a massive need to upgrade the right guard position after a disappointing campaign from a handful of players at the spot in 2022.
Following the struggles of Danny Pinter, who began the season as the starter, the Colts tied Matt Pryor and Will Fries at right guard. While Fries was the best of the trio, he shouldn’t be the reason the Colts don’t upgrade the position.
In listing the best fits for the top 50 free agents, ESPN’s Matt Bowen believes the Colts are the prime location for Philadelphia Eagles guard Isaac Seumalo.
“Seumalo would fill a need opposite of [Quenton] Nelson at right guard for the Colts. He’s a technically sound blocker with the foot quickness to re-direct defenders and the body control to wrestle back versus power rushers. Seumalo had a pass block win rate of 93.6% in Philadelphia last season, which ranked 15th among offensive guards. The Colts allowed 60 sacks (second-most) and produced the league’s worst pass block win rate at 48.5% in 2022.”
Beefing up the interior offensive line is a major need for the Colts this offseason, and Seumalo already has the connection with new head coach Shane Steichen. It also wouldn’t hurt if the Colts hired Eagles assistant offensive line coach Roy Istvan.
The Colts likely have some moves to make before free agency arrives in order to free up some salary-cap space, but Seumalo would be an intriguing addition to the interior offensive line as the unit tries to get back on track.
