College women’s basketball: Breaking down ESPN’s top 10 class of 2024 recruits

We’re now firmly into the college basketball offseason.

There were plenty of headlines in the NCAA women’s tournament, namely LSU cutting down the nets in Dallas after dismantling No. 2 seed Iowa in the national championship game.

As for Colorado, the Buffs had the best tournament run they’ve had in years, advancing to their first Sweet 16 since 2003 before falling to the Hawkeyes.

With the conclusion of a season and college stars like Aliyah Boston, Maddy Siegrest and Diamond Miller headed off to the WNBA, in will come a new group of future stars from the high school ranks starting with the class of 2023.

Just behind that group, here are the top 10 class of 2024 recruits, according to ESPN:

Post Blanca Thomas, Charlotte Catholic (North Carolina)

The uncommitted 6-foot-5 Thomas figures to be a good inside presence and defender for whatever school she goes to.

PG Olivia Olson, Benilde Saint Margaret HS (Minnesota)

The 6-foot point in Olson is headed to the Big Ten, as she’s committed to Michigan.

Wing Kennedy Smith, Etiwanda HS (California)

The uncommitted Smith is the top-ranked player in the talent-rich state of California.

PG Kiyomi McMiller, Life Center Academy (New Jersey)

McMiller sits as the second-best point guard in the class of 2024.

G Allie Ziebell, Neenah HS (Wisconsin)

February 21, 2022; Neenah, WI; Neenah’s Allie Ziebell (1) is leading the state in scoring at 30.5 points a game and has already surpassed the 1,000-point barrier as a sophomore. She’s led the Rockets to a 19-5 record this season. Mandatory Credit: Dan Powers-USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin

The top-ranked player in Wisconsin, Ziebell is headed out of state for college, as the 5-foot-10 guard is verbally committed to the UConn Huskies.

F Sarah Strong, Grace Academy (North Carolina)

The 6-foot-2 Strong stands as the No. 3 ranked forward in a stacked position headed into her senior season. She is uncommitted.

F Justice Carlton, Seven Lakes HS (Texas)

Speaking of a stacked forward class, Carlton ranks just ahead of Strong as the No. 2 forward in the class of 2024. As with Strong, Carlton is uncommitted as well.

Post Kateryna Koval, Long Island Lutheran HS (New York)

Getting to the cream of the crop of the 2024 class, the 6-foot-4 Koval is the top-ranked post in 2024 and could be elite early on at the school she decides to go to.

F Joyce Edwards, Camden HS (South Carolina)

Wren’s Olivia Randolph (13) prepares to face Camden’s Joyce Edwards (12) in the tip-off during the Class AAA girls basketball championship that resulted in a 61-45 loss for Wren at the USC Aiken Convocation Center in Aiken, S.C., on Friday, March 3, 2023.

The top-ranked forward in 2024 recently visited her home state South Carolina Gamecocks, the 2023 national champions in LSU and received an offer from a quality Duke team.

PG Jaloni Cambridge, The Ensworth School (Tennessee)

The 5-foot-6 Cambridge leads the class of 2024 heading into her senior campaign, and her ability to finish at the rim is one of her better skills. That’s impressive out of a smaller point guard, and she appears headed for stardom when she sets foot on a college campus.

Cambridge is uncommitted heading into her senior year.
