College Weekly: Siena Heights football has record day in win

Siena Heights football had a record breaking day as it broke the program record for points in a game, beating Madonna 77-14, while Ethan LoPresto scored a record four touchdowns in the win.

SHU (6-3, 4-2 Mid-States Football Association Mideast) had 603 yards of total offense with 359 yards rushing and 244 passing. LoPresto scored on three 1-yard touchdown runs and an 11-yard touchdown pass in the first half.

Elijah Taylor was 10-of-17 passing for 181 yards and two touchdowns, adding one to Credell Prather for a 32-yard score in the second quarter to go with the LoPresto passing touchdown. Justin McCown was 3-for-3 for 56 yards and touchdowns to Bobby Opalewski (20 yards) and Chris Coleman (23 yards).

Eric Williams II had four receptions for 87 yards but no touchdowns. Prather had four receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Brendan Haisenleder had 61 yards on three carries and a touchdown, John Alexander (Sand Creek) and Nik Hammond each had a 58-yard touchdown and Demario Young had 39 yards on three carries with a touchdown.

Adrian College took on No. 17 Alma and the Bulldogs held their own early,] but ultimately fell 45-24 to drop to 1-8 and 0-6 in the MIAA.

The score was tied, 14-14, after the first quarter with Mark Lopez connecting with Alyjuuan Paris for an 84-yard touchdown before Tche Leroux got a pick-6.

The Scots controlled the game the rest of the way, taking a 28-14 lead into the half and 38-14 lead into the fourth. Alec Milley kicked a 30-yard field goal in the fourth before Tyler Poirier ran in a 4-yard touchdown.

Lopez was 14 of 28 for 171 yards, one touchdown and two picks, while Paris caught eight passes for 115 yards and a touchdown and Keontae Townsend caught six for 64 yards. Poirier ran for 67 yards and his touchdown.

ADRIAN

Women's Hockey

Adrian scored early and often, scoring the opening goal 50 seconds into the game and adding two more in the first period, four in the second and a final goal in the third.

The Bulldogs got four goals from Une Bjelland, while Hunter Reardon had two goals and Allie Hubenschmidt and Jocelin Hudanish each added a goal.

Gia Avalone and Callie Wollschlager had two assists, while Paige Pomerleau, Maya Roy, Kathryn Truban, Aileena Dopheide, Nicole Pietrucha, Bjelland, Hudanish and Courtney Ben all had an assist.

Annie Gilbert made 15 saves in the shutout.

Adrian finished the NCHA sweep with a 5-1 win Saturday to go to 3-1 and 2-0 in the league.

Roy had a goal and assist while Wollschlager, Hubenschmidt, Biddle and Kaleigh Cadorette all had goals and Pomerleau, Crockett, Dopheide, Bjelland and Zoe Lohrei all had an assist.

Michaela O'Brien made 14 saves in the win.

Men's Hockey

The Bulldogs opened NCHA play with a win in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, 5-1, against Marian.

Adrian got two goals from Mathew Rheding while Jaden Shields, Matt Couto and Devyn Orpana scored the other goals. Shields added two assists, as did Jacob Suede while Connor May, Couto, Zachary Heintz, Ryan Pitoscia and Nolan Suggs.

Dershahn Stewart made 29 saves in the win.

The Bulldogs (2-1-1, 2-0 NCHA) followed it up with a 7-2 victory with Heintz, Rehding, Orpana and Alec Lovisek each getting a goal and an assist. Theo Thrun, May and Ian Amsbaugh each added a goal, while Pitoscia, Cameron Babiak, Couto, John Kaljian, Shields, Suede and Bradley Somers all had assists.

Stewart made 24 saves, while Jackson Bernard had one in six minutes of play in net.

Men's Wrestling

Adrian won its home invite while Siena Heights finished ninth overall.

Four Bulldogs took first as Zachary Platte went 4-0 at 157 pounds with two pins and a major decision, Blaise Kokkales (157 freshman/sophomore) went 3-0 with a pin, Connor Williams (165 fresh/soph) went 3-0 with three pins and Jackson Beck-Calver (197) went 4-0 with two pins and two tech falls.

The Saints' top placement was second with Cameron Beach going 3-1 with two tech falls and a major decision before falling in the 125 fresh/soph final in a sudden victory.

Women's Wrestling

Three Bulldogs began the season undefeated as Adrian brought home a few championships from the Tiffin University Women's Open on Saturday.

Carleigh Czerneski (116) went 3-0 with a tech fall, while Angela LoRusso (123) and Taylor Cutler (143) each went 3-0 as well with two tech falls and a pin.

Volleyball

The Bulldogs hit the road for an MIAA matchup in Notre Dame, Indiana and picked up a 5-set win on Wednesday, 25-17, 22-25, 29-31, 25-21, 18-16.

Adrian was led by Mallory Dorow's 21 kills, four digs and two blocks, while Amber Morris had 17 kills, 12 digs, three blocks and two aces and Kayla Chan had 10 kills, seven blocks and two digs.

Hailey Farrell had 54 assists, 15 digs, five blocks and an ace. Mya Minjares had 25 digs.

The Bulldogs fell to Hope in the finale in three sets, 25-14, 25-19, 25-19.

Adrian (12-11, 5-3 MIAA) finished fourth in the league to make the league tournament.

Dorow had nine kills and four digs while Farrell had 22 assists and nine digs and Minjares had 15 digs.

SIENA HEIGHTS

Women's Soccer

The Saints continued their tremendous season by kicking off the WHAC tournament with a 4-0 win against Michigan Dearborn.

SHU got a goal and assist from Maria Brixner, while Lily Tiplady and Keirra Thompson scored as well, and the Saints benefitted from an own goal. Sarah Ammon had an assist, and Caitlyn Harwood made two saves in a shutout.

However, the tournament run ended Saturday in a shootout after neither Lawrence Tech nor the Saints were able to score within regulation or in two overtimes.

The Blue Devils won the shootout, 4-1, with Keirra Thompson scoring the lone goal. Harwood made six saves prior to the shootout.

SHU (14-1-6) now awaits to the NAIA tournament selection show on Monday, Nov. 13 for its next game.

Men's Basketball

The Saints opened the season with a 68-63 win at Ohio Christian in a game where they never trailed from start to finish.

SHU led 37-28 at the half.

Delano Williams led the way with 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals while Brent Wiles had 13 points, two rebounds and two assists. Shawn Brown had 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Volleyball

The Saints avenged a loss from earlier in the season by beating Madonna in five sets on Wednesday in a WHAC thriller, 24-26, 31-33, 26-24, 25-18, 15-5.

SHU got 62 assists from Aubrey Bates while adding 12 digs, three kills, two blocks and two aces. Taylor Wegener had 20 kills and two digs, while Kinsey Wagner (Onsted) had 17 kills, six blocks and two digs and Devyn Eisenhauer had 17 kills, 12 digs, three blocks and an ace.

Kadie Carsten had 10 kills, five digs and two blocks while Payton Osborne had 31 digs.

The Saints wrapped up the regular season with a four-set win at Indiana Tech, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 30-28.

Eisenhauer had 14 kills, 16 digs and four aces, while Wagner had 11 kills and three blocks. Bates had 41 assists, 11 digs and four kills, and Osborne had 24 digs.

SHU went 23-7 and 15-5 in WHAC play, earning the No. 3 seed in the WHAC tournament and will host Cornerstone on Wednesday.

Men's Soccer

The Saints' season came to a close as they fell to Aquinas, 4-1.

SHU's lone goal came from Marcelo Rocha with Gaizka Zandio getting the assist. The Saints finish the season at 7-9-3.

Cross Country

Siena Heights women took seventh while the men took eighth at the WHAC championships on Friday.

Cornerstone won the women's title with 42 points, while the Saints had 187 led by Isabelle Uganski took 11th at 23:49.9.

Aquinas won the men's title with 31 points, while SHU had 230 points with Tyler Landis taking 37th at 27:08.2.
