College volleyball splits tri-match at Southwest Virginia Community College
Aug. 22—Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute's volleyball team traveled to Southwest Virginia Community College Saturday to compete in a tri-match with Walters State Community College and the host Eagles.
The Cobras went 1-1 on the afternoon.
In game one, Caldwell fell to Walters State 3-0, registering their first loss of the season. The Cobras were competitive in the first two sets of the match, losing 21-25 and 22-25, before failing to the Senators 13-25 in the third set.
Caldwell bounced back in their second match, earning a 3-1 victory over Southwest Virginia.
The Cobras fell in the first match 26-28, but then won three straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, and 25-23, earning their second victory of the season.
For both matches, Catherin Pate finished with 19 kills and Laney Craig had 18.
Josie Chappell led the team in assists with 32 total for both matches. Defensively, Emily Ramirez had 41 digs while Leah Pimentel had four solo blocks and four block assists.
Caldwell (2-1) will travel to USC-Lancaster on Wednesday. The Cobras return home on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match against Cleveland Community College.
On Saturday, the Volleyball Tri Match at Davidson-Davie Community College, in Thomasville, includes game one vs. Davidson-Davie at 11 a.m. and game two vs. Pitt Community College at 1 p.m.
Admission is $5.
CCC&TI students, faculty, and staff are admitted free with their identification card and the N.C. Senior Tar Heel Pass will be accepted.
