College roundup: SUNY Oneonta prevails despite milestone outing by SUNY Potsdam's LaDue

Mar. 27—POTSDAM — SUNY Oneonta overcame the milestone performance of SUNY Potsdam senior and Massena native Lindsey LaDue in a 22-14 State University of New York Athletic Conference women's lacrosse victory Tuesday.

LaDue scored a career-high seven points with five goals and two assists to reach 100 points for her career, becoming the 14th Bears player to hit the milestone.

LaDue's 100th point came on a goal that wrapped up a four-goal run and gave Potsdam a 10-6 lead 7 minutes, 2 seconds into the second quarter. But the Red Dragons followed with five straight goals and tied the game 10-10 at the half.

Oneonta outscored Potsdam 12-4 in the second half.

Lauren Mancini scored seven goals for the Red Dragons (2-4 overall, 1-0). Marissa Evans followed with four goals, and Lindsay Townes added three. Cassidy Moore, Elizabeth Doherty, Margaret Byrne and Ellie Downey each scored twice.

Anita Reitano scored three goals for Potsdam, giving her 206 points for her career, which is 12 points away from the program's all-time record. Tessa Pierce and Mallory Marks each scored twice for the Bears (3-3, 0-2) and former Salmon River player Taylor Swamp added a goal.

BASEBALL

ST. LAWRENCE 10-8, ROCHESTER 8-12

The Saints' Jackson Brinker went 4-for-9 with two home runs and five RBIs over two games as St. Lawrence University split a pair of Liberty League games at Rochester.

Brinker led off the first game with a home run as St. Lawrence went on to a 10-8 victory. Sean Desjardins hit a three-run triple that gave the Saints a 6-0 lead. John Donnellan hit his third home run of the three-game series against Rochester. Brett Federico also singled in a run.

In the second game, Alec Ellison hit a three-run home run and Quincy Jaksch hit a two-run home run in Rochester's five-run third inning. Henry Jamieson also hit a home run for the Yellowjackets (7-10, 2-1).

Brinker blasted a three-run home run in the ninth inning for the Saints (6-7, 1-2). Donnellan hit an RBI double.

ITHACA 3-12, CLARKSON 1-5

Colin Leyner pitched the win in the first game and Ithaca College's offense took over in the second game as the Bombers swept the Golden Knights in a doubleheader that opened each team's Liberty League schedule in Ithaca.

Leyner struck out seven in seven innings and allowed five hits in the Bombers' 3-1 win in the opener. Conor Burns pitched the final two innings for the save.

Ithaca (10-4, 2-0) scored all three runs in the first inning, taking advantage of a single by Matt Curtis, a double by Colin Shashaty and two walks and an error. Clarkson scored on a sacrifice fly by CJ Cartier after a single by Cam Jerrett and a double by Aiden Kuefner.

In the second game, Ithaca rapped out 12 hits in a 12-5 victory. Lucas Orlovitz doubled and drove in two runs. Louis Fabbo and Matt Curtis each drove in two runs.

Joe Figliolino drove in two runs for Clarkson with a single and a sacrifice fly. James Mason added an RBI single and Kent Wilson hit an RBI double for the Golden Knights (7-5, 0-2).

HILBERT 13-11, SUNY CANTON 6-1

Hilbert College scored 24 runs on 19 hits to claim the doubleheader over SUNY Canton in Auburn.

Emmanuel McClain drove in three runs on two hits for Hilbert (10-6) in the 13-6 win in the first game. Jack Duffek doubled and knocked in two runs. John LaPorte hit a triple for SUNY Canton.

In the second game, Ronald Mort threw four shutout innings and struck out five for the victory in Hilbert's 11-1 decision. Jairo Santos drove in four runs on two hits.

Derek Maldonado went 2-for-3 for the Kangaroos (0-16).

MOHAWK VALLEY 14-1, JEFFERSON CC 2-6

Kolby Robinson pitched a complete game for Jefferson Community College in the second game to help the Cannoneers record a split of the doubleheader against Mohawk Valley CC at Watertown.

Robinson struck out seven in the 6-1 victory.

Mohawk Valley recorded a 14-2 win in five innings in the first game.
