College Roundup: Siena Heights women's basketball stays hot in winter weather

Despite the weather, most of the Adrian College and Siena Heights events went on as planned this week.

Here's a look at how the Bulldogs and Saints faired this week:

ADRIAN

Men's Hockey

The Bulldogs were in Appleton, Wisconsin, this weekend where they beat Lawrence in NCHA play, 8-2 and 4-1.

On Friday, Adrian got two goals from Jacob Suede while Connor May had a goal and three assists. Bradley Somers had a goal and two assists while Riley Murphy had a goal and an assist. Alec Lovisek, Cameron Babiak and Ryan Pitoscia each had a goal.

Ian Amsbaugh had three assists while Mathew Rehding and Jaden Shields had two assists. Ben Loreto, Austin Clyne and Julien Jacob all had an assist. Dershahn Stewart made 19 saves.

Saturday, Pitoscia, Theo Thrun and John Kaljian each had a goal and assist while Somers had a goal. Clyne, Zachary Heintz and Rehding each had an assist while Nolan Suggs made 23 saves in the win.

The Bulldogs are 12-4-1 and 9-1 in NCHA play.

Women's Hockey

The Bulldogs braved the weather at home to host Lawrence and picked up a pair of NCHA wins, 5-0 and 6-0.

On Friday, Aileena Dopheide had a goal and two assists while Kaleigh Cadorette and Courtney Ben had a goal and assist. Tia Lascelle and Jocelin Hudanish had a goal while Karmen Anderson, Maya Roy, Nicole Pietrucha and Callie Wollschlager each had an assist.

Michaela O'Brien made nine saves in the shutout.

On Saturday, Cadorette and Dopheide each had two goals while Gia Avalone had a goal and an assist. Une Bjelland had a goal while Erika Johnson Zoe Lohrei and Roy each had two assists and Hunter Reardon, Annika Hanson, Saige Biddle, Pietrucha and Sorrell all had an assist.

Annie Gilbert made 11 saves in the shutout.

Men's Basketball

The Bulldogs played their best game all season but ultimately fell to No. 3 Calvin on Wednesday, 71-65.

Adrian and the Knights were tied 28-28 at the half and took a 48-46 lead with 7:55 to go after Michael Rightnowar hit a 3-pointer. Calvin responded with a 6-0 run as it outscored the Bulldogs 25-19 the rest of the way.

DJ Morrow had 23 points while Nick Seifert had 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs couldn't keep up with high-flying Hope College as they lost 91-62 to fall to 3-12 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA.

Braylon Dickerson had 10 points,10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.

Women's Basketball

The Bulldogs dropped their third-straight as they fell in MIAA at Trine, 84-35.

Adrian was led by Bailey Taylor with eight points.

Men's Volleyball

The Bulldogs were out in California and began the season with three, three-set losses to Vassar (25-22, 25-20, 25-15), California Lutheran (25-12, 25-16, 25-14) and Cal-Santa Cruz (25-19, 25-18, 25-14).

Chase Heuer had 24 kills while Andrew Gawrisch had 36 assists, 11 digs, eight kills, three aces and three blocks.

SIENA HEIGHTS

Women's Basketball

After dropping the first two games of the season, the Saints have won 14 straight, most recently, with an 82-55 win against Michigan Dearborn and a 71-44 win against Lawrence Tech.

On Wednesday, Tecumseh graduate Eva Alcock had her best game yet with 16 points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal while Jillian Gelso had 15 points and five rebounds and Jakarri Alven added 11 points and six rebounds.

Saturday, it was Kayla Hinton with 17 points, six steals, four assists and two rebounds while E'Anna Won had 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block and Olivia DeLong had 10 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

The Saints are 14-2 overall and 9-1 in the WHAC.

Men's Basketball

The Saints dropped 100 on Michigan Dearborn Wednesday as they won the WHAC matchup, 100-56.

SHU put up 63 points in the second half alone.

Colin Nutter had 25 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a block while Jonny Bowers had 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block and Brent Wiles added 14 points, four rebounds, an assist and a block. Jonas Tester had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.

SHU fell to Lawrence Tech on Saturday, 69-60.

The Saints (6-10, 3-7 WHAC) were down 31-29 at the half.

Delano Williams had 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block while Jonas Tester had 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Wrestling

The Saints picked up a dual win against Cleary on Tuesday, 38-9.

SHU got off to a strong start with a pin from Zerrick Thomas (149) following voids for Cameron Beach (125) and Randy Frailey (133) and a decision from Clinton graduate Chase Packard (141) to go up 21-0.

Kynan Savoie (165) and Tecumseh graduate Brandon Rau (184) both had major decisions while Braden Gariety (174) got a decision to go up 32-6 before Cleary got a final decision and Matthew Cepak (285) got a pin.

Track and Field

The Saints beat the weather took part in the Saginaw Valley State University Classic where two men got first-place finishes.

Matthew Gipple won the long jump (7.07 meters) and Savion Tyler won the high jump (1.98).

Linnearia Richards took second in the 400-meter (1:01.4).
