Coldwater's Vanderpuyl named Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week

In the closest vote in the history of the Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week honor, Coldwater’s Drew Vanderpuyl has been voted as this week’s honoree for his work with Coldwater track and field.

Vanderpuyl edged out Quincy soccer star Laura Bostic for the title of Athlete the Week this week, winning by only three votes in the poll voted on by you, the readers.

Vanderpuyl won this week’s honor after putting together a big week for the Cardinals, starting on May 3 with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run to go with a fifth-place finish as part of the 1,600-relay team and a seventh-place finish as part of the 3,200-relay team at the Mitch Lutzke Williamston Track and Field Invitational. On May 8, in dual meet action, Vanderpuyl added a first-place finish in the 1,600 to go along with a second in the 3,200 and a third in the 800 as the Cardinals swept an Interstate 8 dual meet versus Marshall and Pennfield. To add to his growing list of accomplishments in his rookie season, on Monday Vanderpuyl added a second-place finish in the 800 and a fourth-place finish in the 1,600 to go along with a third place finish as part of the 1,600-relay team and as part of the winning 3,200-meter relay team in an Interstate 8 double dual versus Parma Western and Northwest.

The five finalists for this week’s Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week poll were decided by the weekly Top Performers poll, which will be released Friday and run throughout the weekend.
