Coldwater baseball splits with Interstate 8 rival Parma Western

JACKSON – The Coldwater baseball Cardinals battled their way to a hard-earned doubleheader split with Interstate 8 rival Parma Western on Wednesday, taking game one 8-3 before falling in game two 10-2.

Game one saw Coldwater open an early 7-0 lead they would never look back from as the Cardinals out hit Parma Western 10-7 in the 8-3 win.

Evan Porter took the win on the mound for Coldwater after throwing seven full innings. Porter allowed seven hits and three runs, one earned, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Coleten Calhoun led the Cardinals at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and a run scored.

Freshman Dayton Ennis continued his torrid pace at the plate, finishing with two singles, two RBIs and two runs while Drake Thornton notched a pair of singles and two runs scored.

Brayden Lackey added a single and three RBIs while Owen Tappenden and Lucas Wischmeyer each added an RBI.

Game two saw the teams battle back-and-forth for the first four innings, with Parma holding a slim 3-2 lead. The Panthers then added seven unanswered runs over the final two innings to put away the 10-2 win. Parma out hit Coldwater 9-4 in the win and took advantage of four Cardinal fielding errors.

Dayton Ennis took the loss on the mound for Coldwater after throwing five innings in the start. Ennis allowed six hits and six runs, four earned, with three walks and six strikeouts.

Evan Porter led the Cardinals at the plate with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Also adding hits for Coldwater was Thornton, Calhoun, and Brady Massey, with Massy adding an RBI.

Coldwater is now 12-11 on the season and will be back in action Saturday with their annual Stout and Sons Invitational.
