Cocoa athletic director Mark Carstens also expressed gratitude to Gardner-Johnson for his kind gesture at the ceremony.

"His commitment, his gracious nature, his unselfish nature is unbelievable, and you can carry this out through your whole lifetime," Carstens said. "So, we appreciate Chauncey Gardener-Johnson for all he did and what he did for our program."

The Tigers went 11-3 in the 2022 season and won the Class 2S state title on Dec. 9 over Florida High in overtime, 38-31.

The other state titles came in 2008, '09, '10, and '16.
