Clutch factor: Who is the H.S. Athlete of the Week for Feb. 26-March 3?

TAUNTON — The winter high school sports season is nearing its end in the Greater Taunton area.

After the first week of tournament action, just two local teams, Taunton and Bridgewater-Raynham girls basketball, are left standing. Taunton hockey took down Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth in an all Greater Taunton area Division 3 Preliminary Round showdown before meeting their match in Pembroke in the Round of 32. The Tiger and Trojan girls basketball teams both earned Division 1 Round of 32 wins, and both are set for Sweet Sixteen showdowns Tuesday. The wrestling season also concluded, with four local wrestlers placing at the New England Interscholastic Championship in Providence, R.I.

The Taunton Daily Gazette Athlete of the Week for Feb. 19-25 is Bridgewater-Raynham hockey's Bobby Quill, receiving 42% of the vote while Bristol-Plymouth wrestling's Brooke Weafer came in second with 36% and Taunton hockey's Brady Gomes received 14% to finish third.

Santos had 27 points against No. 15 Needham.

Deshawn Faulk, Bridgewater-Raynham

Faulk had 19 points against No. 3 Franklin.

Jordan Dietz, Dighton-Rehoboth

Dietz had 23 points against No. 33 Nipmuc.

Girls Basketball

Jillian Doherty, Taunton

Doherty had 17 points against No. 16 Winchester.

Brenna Woodbury, Bridgewater-Raynham

Woodbury had 16 points, seven rebounds six steals and five assists against No. 21 Belmont.

Boys Hockey

Matt Maher, Taunton

Maher had a pair of goals and an assist against No. 40 Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth.

Cam Wilbur, Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth

Wilbur had a goal and an assist against No. 25 Taunton.

Adam Bastis, Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk

Bastis had a pair of goals against No. 17 Hudson.

Boys Wrestling

Ethan Harris, Taunton

Harris reached the quarterfinals, but finished the weekend 3-2 at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championship.

Brent von Magnus, Bridgewater-Raynham

von Magnus finished sixth in the 132 lb. weight class at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championship.

Nathan Hicks, Bristol-Plymouth

Hicks advanced to the quarterfinals, but finished the weekend 2-2 at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championship.

Luis Garcia, Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth

Garcia advanced to the quarterfinals, but finished the weekend 2-2 at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championship.

Girls Wrestling

Olivia Polansky, Bridgewater-Raynham

Polansky finished sixth in the 107 lb. weight class at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championship.

Brooke Weafer, Bristol-Plymouth

Weafer finished runner up in the 114 lb. weight class at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championship.
