Clockwork: ESPN names Caitlin Clark the Player of the Week
She stands alone at the top of the NCAA scoring mountain. Caitlin Clark now owns the crown as the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer after she took over the record in the Hawkeyes’ recent win over Ohio State.
Another special week for Caitlin Clark sees her once again named ESPN’s Player of the Week for the fourth team this year.
Player of the week: Caitlin Clark, Iowa
Clark gets the award for the fourth time this season. How could she be denied? In victories over Minnesota and Ohio State, Clark had a combined 68 points, 21 assists and 16 rebounds. She tallied the 17th triple-double of her Iowa career against the Gophers, and sixth with at least 30 points. And she passed the career point totals of both Lynette Woodard and Pete Maravich, making her the Division I all-time scoring leader. – Michael Voepel, ESPN
Clark’s week started with a triple-double against Minnesota in which she posted 33 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds as the Hawkeyes rolled. To follow it up, Clark put on a show at home in the season finale at Carver-Hawkeye Arena by filling up the stat sheet again with 35 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.
The two games saw Caitlin Clark shoot 47.8% (22-46) overall from the field and 45.2% (14-31) from three-point range. If she can continue to play at the level she is, which can be fairly expected as she’s done it all season, the Hawkeyes have the best player in America playing her best basketball entering postseason play.
