Clemson football's Will Shipley leaves game with injury vs. NC State after big hit

RALEIGH, N.C. — Clemson football's Will Shipley left Saturday's 24-17 loss against NC State in the second quarter after a hit to the head and neck area.

The junior running back walked off the field under his own power alongside the training staff after the hit and did not return.

Shipley was brought down at the goal line after an 11-yard catch and run. NC State's Shyheim Battle hit Shipley as he was going down.

Will Shipley injury update

Shipley was evaluated in the injury tent before being taken to the locker room. He will not return to the game, according to the CW broadcast.

Shipley is Clemson's leading rusher with 504 yards on 106 carries entering Saturday's game. He left the game with 21 rushing yards on six carries and 20 receiving yards on two receptions.

Without Shipley, junior Phil Mafah is Clemson's go-to at running back. Mafah entered the game with 355 rushing yards on 57 carries this season. He scored his fifth touchdown of the season from the 1-yard-line on the play after Shipley's injury.

What Dabo Swinney said about Will Shipley injury

Swinney did not provide an update on Shipley's injury after the game.

"I'm not sure," Swinney said.

Shipley was able to be evaluated at Carter-Finley Stadium and was not taken off-site, a program spokesperson said.
