Clary, Rosa, Botelho crowned champions at 2023 Taunton Junior City Open

TAUNTON— Three junior golfers can now lay claim to being the best of their age group in the Greater Taunton area.

The annual Taunton Junior City Open concluded Tuesday at the John F. Parker Golf Course with Shawn Clary crowned the Division 3 (ages 16-18) champion, while Charlie Rosa took home the Division 2 (ages 14-15) title. In Division I, Bryce Botelho, who was the lone participant for his age group, won after shooting a combined 167 (+17) over Monday and Tuesday.

Clary shot a combined 150 (+10), with a 74 (+4) on Monday and a 76 (+6) on Tuesday. Alex Dias finished as the Division 3 runner up after shooting a combined 164 (+24), with an 80 (+10) on Monday and an 84 (+14) on Tuesday. Rounding out Division 3 were McKyen Gonsalves with 166 (+26), Ella Rosa with 169 (+29), Noah Faidell with 192 (+52) and Donny Azar with 197 (+57).

In Division 2, Charlie Rosa, the 2022 Taunton Junior City Open Division 1 champion and a 2022 Taunton Daily Gazette Golf All-Scholastic, won with a combined 142 (+2), the lowest combined total of all 15 participants, after shooting a 75 (+5) Monday and a 67 (-3) Tuesday to earn the come from behind win. Mackinley Garcia came in second with a combined total of 147 (+7), shooting a 73 (+3) Monday and a 74 (+4). Rounding out Division 2 was Cameron Poirier, the 2022 Division 2 champion, with 154 (+14), Griffin Clary with 157 (+17), Logan Gallinger with 160 (+20), Mason Ball with 165 (+25), Cole Souza with 172 (+32) and Quint Perry with 189 (+49).

In Division 3, Botelho shot an 85 (+15) Monday and an 82 (+12) Tuesday to finish with a combined 167 (+17).

The Taunton Junior City Open is put together by tournament director Larry Masterson, assistant directors Tom Bernier, Eric Davis, DJ Martinez and Bob White and John F. Parker Golf Course pro Dan "Bo" Botelho.
