Clark Tourney stars: Vote for the High School Athlete of the Week

Last week, readers voted Sasha Gendron The Gardner News Athlete of the Week with 1,702 votes (72%).

Gendron scored in overtime to send the Blue Devils past Central Catholic 2-1 on February 12. The victory also clinched Leominster girls hockey a spot in the state playoff tournament, where they ranked No. 27 in Div. 2.

Behind Gendron in the poll was Quabbin's Meg Doyle. Doyle has been a force for Quabbin all season long and earned a spot in last week's vote for her 12-point and 18-point games that helped the Panthers to two wins. She received 325 votes for 13.75%.

Boys Basketball

Jordan Pantojas, Oakmont

Oakmont basketball played in the semifinals of the Clark Tournament on February 18 against Tantasqua. The Spartans fell to the eventual champions of the tournament, but still saw some positive contributions. Pantojas led with 11 points and J.J. Hicks added 9 points.

Kyle Clark, Quabbin

Clark scored 18 points in the Panthers' consolation loss against Leicester, 49-38, on February 20. Teammate Quinn Geary added 13 for Quabbin.

Mike Cannon, Monty Tech

Cannon scored a game-high 22 points in the Bulldogs' consolation loss against Burncoat on February 21. Aiden Walter added 10 points, but it was not enough and Monty Tech fell 72-57.

Hunter Kapp, Murdock

Kapp scored a game-high 25 points against Main South in a Central Mass. tournament consolation game on February 22. Tanner Brimhall added 21 points, helping the Blue Devils to a 62-49 victory.

Girls Basketball

Amanda Iannacone, Narragansett

The Warriors narrowly fell to St. Bernard's in the Central Mass. Class D semifinal on February 19, 38-35. Iannacone scored more than half of Narragansett's points, finishing with 17 in the loss.

Candace Haley, Monty Tech

Haley scored 9 points in a consolation game against Auburn on February 19. She is a consistent contributor on the court, yet not always just reflected on the stat sheet. Teammates Kylie Neseran and Paige Gadarowski each added 13 points and Jayda DeCarlo scored 10.

Olivia Martin, Oakmont

Oakmont fell to Grafton 50-34 in a Clark Tournament consolation game on February 20. However, Martin made a huge contribution to the Spartans' offense, scoring 19 points in the game.

Hannah Baxter, Quabbin

Baxter scored 9 points and played a strong defensive game, taking multiple charges, in Quabbin's win against NDA to take the Central Mass. Class B title. The Panthers had an all-around impressive day, with Mia Ducos scoring 11 and Meaghan Doyle dropping 9 to help offensively.

Hockey

Colin Hines, Fitchburg

Hines scored four goals in Fitchburg's 8-5 win over Westborough in a Central Mass. consolation game on February 19. Other goal scorers included Cam Begnoche, Tucker Watkins, Ben Gionet and Jacob Pruneau.

Kailyn Hawkins, Leominster

Hawkins notched a goal and an assist in Leominster's game against Marblehead on February 19. Rachel Simkewicz and Alyssa Allan added two more goals to defeat Marblehead 3-0. Carina Eshbaugh earned the shutout with 15 saves.
