City champs again: Top Greater Taunton H.S. sports performers for Feb. 5-11

TAUNTON — Another week of high school sports action is upon us in the Greater Taunton area.

Last week, Bridgewater-Raynham girls basketball scored a big win over the defending Division 1 champions while Taunton hockey earned an overtime win in a back-and-forth battle, a Taunton boys basketball captain continues to close in on 1,000 career points and another local hockey player put in a six-point performance.

Here's a look at the at the Greater Taunton area's top performing high school athletes from the first full week of February.

Sunday

Girls Swimming

Eva Chaves finished 13th in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 0:26.4 while the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Delilah Danh, Eily Mitchell, Riley Gillespie and Chaves finished tied for 17th with a time of 1:52.88 as Bridgewater-Raynham (4-1, 2-1 SEC) finished 36th out of 37 with four points at the MIAA South Sectional at the Melrose YMCA.

Saturday

Boys Hockey

Bridgewater-Raynham (1-16) fell 5-1 to Plymouth North at home.

Evan Silvia led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk (9-7, 5-4 SCC) with a pair of goals while Adam Bastis also found the back of the net, Brett Axon had a pair of assists and Aidan Boothe and Colin Lush each recorded an assist as the Falcon Warriors beat Apponequet/Old Colony 3-1 on the road in SCC action.

Girls Hockey

Grace Ogilvie, Riley Bain and Kate Carabin each had a pair of goals for West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raynham/Bristol-Plymouth/Southeastern/Middleboro (7-12) while Charlotte Pickering also found the back of the net and Rachael Spooner, Teagan O'Connor, Bella Armando and Mackenzie Belvin each recorded an assist as the Wild Vikings beat Stoughton/Sharon/Attleboro/North Attleboro 7-2 on the road.

Cammy Shanteler led the way for Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro/Taunton with a pair of goals while Maeve Anastasia, Kayla Isleib and Emma Rabinovich all found the back of the net as the co-op beat Ursuline Academy 5-1 on the road in non-league action.

Gymnastics

Sophia Hall led the way for Taunton (4-4, 4-4 Hockomock), finishing fourth overall in the all around, winning the beam with a 9.1 while tying for third in the floor and fifth on the bars as the Tigers finished fifth out of nine with a combined score of 131.3 at the Hockomock Championship at Newton North High School. In individual events, Danika Hourne finished tied for ninth on bars.

Lily Moreira won the all-around with a combined score of 36.95 winning the bars with a 9.4 and the beam with a 9.4 as Bridgewater-Raynham/West Bridgewater (5-1, 5-1 Cranberry) won their eighth straight Cranberry League Championship with a total score of 144.7. In individual events, Natalia Flores won the floor with a 9.25, Frankie Fernandes tied for first on the floor with a 9.0, Brianna Buckley finished second on the bars with an 8.75 and third on the beam with an 8.95 and Cecilia Meoli finished second on the beam with a 9.15 and third on the floor with an 8.95.

Wrestling

Mike Leskoski (120), John Mandeville (144), Gabe Leskoski (150), Ethan Harris (190) and Elijah Prophete (215) all won their respective weight classes as Taunton (14-6, 3-2 Hockomock) won their third straight MIAA Division 1 South Sectional title at home with a score of 227.5. Kingston DaCosta (175) finished second while Brian Haen (138) and William Buffington (165) finished third, Antonio Maldonado (285) finished fourth and Cody Truelson (113) finished sixth.

Brent von Magnus (132), Luke Driscoll (175) and Jackson Rinke (215) all won their respective weight classes as Bridgewater-Raynham (24-3, 3-0 SEC) finished second overall with 223 points at the MIAA Division 2 South Sectionals at Stoughton High School. Jack Alves (138) finished second while Olivia Polansky (106) and Brenton Allain (150) finished third, Cameron Abrams (165) finished fourth and Lucas Santos (120), Matthew Fernandes (126) and Fletcher Rinke (190) all finished fifth.

Griffin Machie (106), Luis Garcia (113) and Brady Benfeito (285) all won their respective weight classes as Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth finished second with 232.5 points at the MIAA Division 3 South Sectionals at Foxboro High School. Ryan Moitoso (138), Josh Hoskins (150) and Malakai Risotti (175) finished second, Brennan Chisholm (120), David Hunt (144) and Jonathan Borges (165) finished fourth and Andrew Sunderland (126) and Derek Corvelo (215) finished sixth.

Jacob Bettencourt (144), Nathan Hicks (157) and Jack Ramondetta (165) all won their respective weight classes as Bristol-Plymouth finished fifth with 160.5 points at the MIAA Division 3 South Sectionals at Foxboro High School. Matt Keefe (126) finished fourth while Colby Grenon (106) and Andrew Daley (132), Romeo Gomes (175) and Tommy Jones (285) finished sixth.

Friday

Boys Basketball

Noah Perry-Lewis led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (9-8, 4-3 SEC) with 22 points while Bobby Lewis had 17 and Cason Faulk had 11 as the Trojans beat Dartmouth 66-63 at home in SEC action.

Donte Morris led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (7-10, 4-4 MAC) with 26 points, including four three-pointers, while Ryan Donovan had 17 and Owen Hale had 11 as the Craftsmen beat Tri-County 64-57 on the road in MAC action.

Aidan Marando led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-10, 2-9 SCC) with 19 points while Dennis Correia had 12 as the Falcons fell 66-49 to Apponequet on the road in SCC action.

Girls Basketball

Reese Bartlett led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (13-4, 5-2 SEC) with 15 points and four rebounds while Brenna Woodbury had nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Trojans fell 49-39 to Dartmouth on the road in SEC action. With the loss, B-R's run of 10 straight league titles dating back to the Old Colony League comes to a close.

Bristol-Plymouth (3-14, 0-8 MAC) fell 18-14 to Tri-County at home in MAC action.

Lucy Latour led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (2-15, 1-10 SCC) with eight points while Reese Jefferson had seven as the Falcons fell 60-31 to Apponequet at home in SCC action.

Boys Hockey

Conner Goranson led the way for Taunton (12-6-1, 4-5-1 Hockomock) with a goal and an assist while Jonathan McGrath, Braden Lachance and Breighdyn Simmons all found the back of the net, Tre Nadeau and Jamie Valarelli each had a pair of assists and Travis Cashman and Drew Nadeau each recorded assists as the Tigers beat Apponequet/Old Colony 4-0 at home in non-league action. Cam Tomaszycki made 33 saves in net for the shutout.

Boys Basketball

Troy Santos led the way for Taunton (13-5, 9-5 Hockomock) with 22 points and seven rebounds while Cyrus Morrisette had 14 points, four rebounds and four assists and Travis Johnson had 13 points, 20 rebounds and four assists as the Tigers beat Attleboro 59-51 at home in Hockomock action.

Girls Basketball

Lexi Haywood led the way for Taunton (13-5, 9-5 Hockomock) with 15 points while Taryn Campbell had 14 as the Tigers fell 60-54 to Attleboro on the road in Hockomock action.

Boys Indoor Track

Dmitrius Shearrion was crowned the Hockomock champion in both the 55 meter dash, where he set a new school record time of 0:06.62, and the 300 meter with a time of 0:35.46 and Ancil Alexander was crowned the Hockomock champion in the shot put with a personal best throw of 47'9.75" as Taunton (1-4, 1-4 Hockomock) finished fifth out of 12 with 46 points at the Hockomock League Championship. The 4x400 meter relay team of Corbin Melo, Brayden Salvo, Usman Yusif and Shearrion finished second with a time of 3:32.8 while the 4x200 meter relay team of Chris Wallace, Zachary Gay, Jeremy Kneif and Carlos Cruz finished sixth with a time of 1:37.83, Alexander Susol finished sixth in the shot put with a top throw of 41"1.5" and Drew Alves finished seventh in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 0:08.51.

Girls Indoor Track

The 4x200 meter relay team of Chloe Blanc, Ava Uhl, Nevaeh Young and Grace Inacio was the top finisher for Taunton (1-4, 1-4 Hockomock), coming in fourth with a time of 1:50.39 as the Tigers finished eighth out of 12 with 46 points at the Hockomock League Championship. Emersyn DePonte had the best individual finish for Taunton, coming in fifth in the mile with a time of 12:10.74, while Sophia Olaniyan finished sixth in the shot put with a top throw of 33"0.75" and Ciara Pina finished sixth in the high jump with a personal best height of 4'10". Sarah Mendonca finished seventh in the mile with a time of (6:02.86) while Braelyn Nichols finished eighth in the 600 meter with a personal best time of 1:48.44, Renee Leao finished eighth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 0:09.54 and the 4x800 meter relay team of Mendonca, Colby Dunham, Madison Dias and DePonte finished eighth with a time of 11:38.32.

Wednesday

Boys Basketball

Donte Morris led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (6-10, 3-4 MAC) with 14 points while Greg Aisku had 12 and Zach Branco had eight as the Craftsmen fell 59-48 to Blue Hills at home in MAC action.

Girls Basketball

Gianna Viola led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (3-13, 0-7 MAC) with seven points while Alyssa Costa had six as the Craftsmen fell 38-25 to Blue Hills on the road in MAC action.

Boys Hockey

Ronan O'Malley led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (1-15) with a hattrick while Bobby Quill, Jack Dion and Will Foley also found the back of the net as the Trojans fell 7-6 to Diman/Durfee/Westport at home.

Adam Bastis led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk (8-7, 4-4 SCC) with a hattrick and three assists while Aidan Boothe had a hattrick and an assist, Brett Axon and Connar Dexter each had a goal and an assist, Anthony D'Aiello had a goal and Liam Blenkush, Cameron Johnson and goalie Sam Bastis each recorded an assist as the Falcon Warriors beat Greater New Bedford 9-1 at home in SCC action.

Girls Hockey

Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro/Taunton (5-8-2, 3-5 Hockomock) fell 6-0 to Canton on the road in Hockomock action.

Abby Gropman and Mackenzie Whitman both found the back of the net for West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raynham/Bristol-Plymouth/Southeastern/Middleboro (6-12) while Grace Ogilvie and Charlotte Pickering each recorded an assist as the Wild Vikings fell 4-2 to Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake at home.

Wrestling

Olivia Polansky (106), Kennedie Davis (113), Lucas Santos (120), Matthew Fernandes (126), Brent von Magnus (132), Jack Alves (138), Jack Peters (144), Brenton Allain (150), Drew Silvia (157), Cameron Abrams (165), Luke Driscoll (175), Fletcher Rinke (190), Jackson Rinke (215) and Caiden Sewall (285) all won their respective matches as Bridgewater-Raynham (24-3, 3-0 SEC) swept South Shore Tech 80-0 at home in a non-league dual meet.

Boys Basketball

Deshawn Faulk led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (8-8, 3-3 Southeast Conference) with 19 points while Noah Perry-Lewis had 11 and Cason Faulk had 10 as the Trojans beat Brockton 62-51 at home in SEC action.

Aidan Marando led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-9, 2-8 South Coast Conference) with 25 points as the Falcons fell 54-51 to West Bridgewater on the road in SCC action.

Girls Basketball

Camden Strandberg led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (13-3, 5-1 SEC) with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists while Reese Bartlett had 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals and Brenna Woodbury had nine points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals as the Trojans beat Brockton 46-42 on the road in SEC action.

Megan Keane led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (2-14, 1-9 SCC) with 13 points while Lucy Latour had 11 as the Falcons beat West Bridgewater 45-33 at home in SCC action.

Boys Hockey

Braden Lachance and Brayden Smith both found the back of the net for Taunton (11-6-1, 4-5-1 Hockomock) while Breighdyn Simmons, Jamie Valarelli, Drew Nadeau and Owen Hathaway each recorded an assist as the Tigers fell 8-2 to Franklin on the road in Hockomock action.

Boys Indoor Track

Joey Brand won the two mile with a time of 10:24.11 while the 4x800 meter relay team of Anthony Matta, Riley Frisch, Dan Leet and Ryan Hall won with a time of 8:52.41 as Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0, 2-0 SEC) finished second with 46 points at the SEC Championship. Other top three finishes for the Trojans include Kauan Bento coming in second in the 55 meter dash (0:06.58), Leet finished second in the 600 meter (1:28.93) and the 4x200 meter relay team of Caleb Vidal, Nathan Chafee, Kevin Gomes and Malik Washburn finished second (1:33.63). The top finisher in field events for B-R was Washburn, who came in fifth in the high jump with a personal best height of 5'8".

Girls Indoor Track

Sydney O'Donnell won both the 1000 meter (3:22.82) and the mile (5:33.84) while Lily Giurleo won the 55 meter dash (0:44.44), Emily Keefe won the 600 meter (1:45.22), Molly Jesson won the two mile (13:12.520, Emily Long won the high jump (4'6") and the 4x400 meter relay team of Kayla Tejan-Siesay, Alisha Gomes, Keefe and Giurleo won with a time of 4:24.44 as Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0, 2-0 SEC) won the SEC Championship with 146 points. Other top three finishes for the Trojans include Jesson coming in second in the mile (personal best of 5:42.98), Tessa Bringardner finished second in the mile (personal best of 14:03.72), the 4x800 meter relay team of Brooke Carney, Molly O'Reilly, Mackenzie Bagdon and Bringardner finished second (13:05.94) and O'Reilly finished third in the 600 meter (personal best of 1:52.46).

Wrestling

Taunton (14-6, 3-2 Hockomock) defeated Bristol-Plymouth (21-5) 47-28 on the road in the annual non-league Taunton City Championship meet. Earning wins for the Tigers were Cody Truelson (113), Mike Leskoski (126), Brian Haen (138), Gabe Leskoski (150), William Buffington (165), Kingston DaCosta (175), Ethan Harris (190), Elijah Prophete (215) and Antonio Maldonado (285). As for the Craftsmen, Colby Grenon (106, win by forfeit), Colin Donovan (120, win by forfeit), Drew Daley (132), Jacob Bettencourt (144) and Cam Curtis (157) all won their respective matches.

Troy Santos led the way for Taunton (12-5, 8-5 Hockomock League) with 19 points and eight rebounds while Dray Thielker had 16 points as the Tigers fell 63-59 to Franklin on the road in Hockomock action.

Girls Basketball

Taryn Campbell led the way for Taunton (13-4, 9-4 Hockomock) with 21 points while Chelsea Bousquet had 10 and Jillian Doherty had nine as the Tigers beat Franklin 55-48 on the road in Hockomock action.

Girls Hockey

West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raynham/Bristol-Plymouth/Southeastern/Middleboro (6-11) fell 6-0 to Billerica/Chelmsford at home.

Gymnastics

Lily Moreira led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham/West Bridgewater (5-1, 5-1 Cranberry League) with a personal best score of 9.55 on bars as well as a 9.35 on the floor and a 9.3 on beam as the Trojans beat Carver/Middleboro 142.8-129.25 in Cranberry action. Moreira also finished second in vault with a 9.0. Natalia Flores won the vault with a joint personal best score of 9.45. Brianna Buckley came in second on bars with an 8.9 and third on beam with an 8.7. Cecilia Meoli came in second on beam with a 9.2, second on the floor with a 9.05 and third on bars with an 8.55. Grace LaRose finished third on the floor with an 8.9 while Lexi Fabrizio finished third in vault with an 8.7.
